Vellore Institute of Technology - Highest placements done by one company in a day

Vellore Institute of Technology - Highest placements done by one company in a day

BANGALORE: Vellore Institute of Technology's students got 1492 job offers from Accenture, 1,308 offers from Wipro and 803 from Cognizant. Around 55 companies were part of the placement drive at VIT to pick up their lot from the 2700 students.

A record 3,603 jobs were offered to VIT University students during the three-day campus placement programme that concluded here on Sunday. While Accenture offered the highest number of 1,492 jobs, Wipro handed over 1,308 job offers to the jubilant students and Cognizant Technology Solutions ending up with 803 jobs.

The recruitment process consisted of screening tests and interview sessions. VIT University Vice President G V Sampath said, “The scenario is that of a big recession. Every company wants to cut recruitment by 50 per cent and several institutions are feeling the heat. The European slow down is having its impact on the placement initiatives of the big companies.”

Last year, the university had entered the Limca Book of Records for achieving the highest placements done by a single company on a single day.

“We are creating a record this year too,” said G V Sampath while addressing the students who had assembled to receive their job offer letters from the three companies. The University this year saw Wipro, Accenture and Cognizant conduct their placement drives screening the students on the first day and interviewing them for the next two days.

Samuel Rajkumar, Deputy Director of Placement Centre at the university, said, “Flipkart has already conducted the campus placement drive with us offering jobs to four students. They have offered `12.5 lakh per annum as salary package while DE Shaw, a software company has offered has offered `14.5 lakh.”

According to the university, a total of 55 companies had conducted placement drives this year. “Every year, 150 to 160 companies come to the university. Last year, 188 companies had come for placements and this year we are trying as many as possible. In fact, last year, we had 95 per cent placement record with 3,007 students placed,”, Rajkumar noted.

25,300 jobs in a day, Mumbai set Guinness world record

25,300 jobs in a day, Mumbai set Guinness world record

City-based NGO Swabhiman Sanghatana Thursday said it has created a new Guinness World Record by giving jobs to 25,300 unemployed youths, including physically challenged.

The appointment letters were issued Wednesday from various private and cooperative banks, call centres, private companies, trading and business organisations, malls and shopping plazas, depending on the qualifications of the applicants.

The effort was recognised by Guinness World Records director Rob Molroy, who awarded the coveted certificate to Swabhiman Sanghatana head Nitesh Rane as thousands of youths cheered.

“More than any record, the bigger pleasure was to see the faces of so many unemployed youths lit up as they were given their appointment letters which would help them support their families,” Rane said.

Shortly after the Guinness recognition, Maharashtra Industry Minister Narayan Rane rushed to the venue to felicitate Nitesh, who also happens to be his son.

A Sanghatana office-bearer said that the preparations for the NGO’s job fair started several weeks ago.

“This included tapping various organisations for different types of jobs they could offer to the youths, and then contacting several thousand unemployed youngsters and asking them to submit applications for the same,” the official told IANS.

Several youths who secured jobs of their choice were seen leaving the venue with an expression of triumph and happiness on their faces.

The starting salary for the jobs offered is around Rs75,000 per annum and above, depending on the merits and qualifications of the individual, Sanghatana officials said.
