Assam drummers play khol hoping to enter Guinness World Records

Assam earned an entry in the India Book of Records on Sunday for holding the largest ensemble of drummers with 14,833 drummers playing khol (a traditional drum of Assam) in unison in Titabor in Jorhat district.

The organiser of the ensemble Srimanta Sankaradeva Sangha will now be sending the video recording of the event to the authorities of Guinness World Records with the hope to earn an entry. Clad in white attire and headgear the drummers from across the State and also from Arunachal Pradesh played in unison for 15 minutes at a paddy field in Mezengapathar of Titabor.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi played a khol to mark symbolic start of the ensemble in his home constituency.

Addressing the gathering Mr. Gogoi hoped that the largest khol ensemble would help in propagating the creative genius of Srimanta Sankaradeva, the propagator of ‘eksarana naamdharma’ or Mahapurshiya dharma (a Vaishnava faith), playwright, poet, composer, litterateur, painter, communicator. Sankaradeva adopted the technique of propagating his faith through music, art and literature to usher in a socio-cultural renaissance in Assam in 15th-16th centuries.

Ab India Todega - Colors to bring Indian version of Guinness World Records

Hindi entertainment channel Colors is set to bring an Indian version of ‘Guinness World Records’ soon, and Indians will get a chance to showcase talent that can become new world records.

‘Guinness World Records, Ab India Todega’, to be produced by Miditech Pvt Ltd, will be launched early 2011. The channel is on the lookout for a ‘Bollywood face’ to host the show.

Guinness, the globally recognised authority on record breaking, will validate the achievements of the Indian participants as they attempt to break the existing records, and also recognise new world ones.

‘Guinness … will provide Indian participants an opportunity to go down in history by having their achievements validated by an internationally recognised institution, a reward more precious than what any other reality show can offer on Indian television today,’ Colors Head of Programming Ashvini Yardi said in a statement.

The Guinness has enthralled viewers in around 90 countries with its TV shows. Now the bosses are excited about the foray into India.

‘This new deal demonstrates the incredible global reach and relevance of Guinness, and we look forward to welcoming a lot more Indian talent to the record books. We believe India has a wealth of undiscovered record breakers who have the talent and determination to make the impossible possible,’ said Rob Molloy, Guinness’ director of television.

Gautam Varma - Peeling Coconut by Teeth World Record - Karnataka,India

In a bid to create a world record, Gautam Varma, a native of Patlugrama village of Karnataka's Ramnagar District peeled three coconuts with his teeth in 42 seconds here on Tuesday.
Dreaming of doing something unique in his life, Varma has been peeling coconuts with his teeth for over 15 years.

Earlier, he had made a record of pulling a Maruti 800 car by his ears.

Gautam Varma also claimed that he can climb 40 feet coconut trees holding a bicycle in his mouth, and can even balance a motorcycle for half-an-hour without holding or touching the handle.

"There is a world record of peeling 51 coconuts using the teeth. My name has been enrolled in Limca Book of Records for pulling a Maruti 800 car from my ears. I can climb a 40-feet coconut tree holding a bicycle in my mouth, said Varma.

"I can even do stunts on a running motorcycle for half-an-hour without holding it. I want to set a record in Guinness Book of Records, and for I have been practicing hard with coconuts," he added.

Maximum pushups or dips set India Book of Record - Ronak Vitha

One of Aamir Khan's biggest fans, four-and-a-half year old Ronak Vitha, is planning to enter the India Book of Records by performing maximum pushups in a limited amount of time. Trainer Satyajit Chaurasia, who gave Aamir his spectacular body for Ghajini, is preparing the boy for this feat.

At it from two Satya (as he is fondly called by his star clients) relates, "When Ronak's parents came to me four months ago, he could manage to do 600 pushups or dips but now he can do 1,500 push ups in 49 minutes. He said he was inspired by Aamir in Ghajini and started doing pushups since he was two. Ronak told me that he wanted to train under me as I had trained Aamir. I was impressed and signed him on. He is my youngest pupil."

The young boy doesn't just want to have a body like Aamir, but also wants be the strongest child in the world. Satya adds, "Ronak wants to meet Aamir when he has time. He was inspired by his dips in Ghajini and started doing that as a baby. Now he's training basically stretching, hanging for flexibility, pushups and yoga asanas.

“I used to think that children can't do pushups but this little boy has shown me otherwise. In the last one year Ronak has grown 8 inches. He's flexible like Rubberman. He comes twice a week to my studio and works out for one hour and also takes lessons at home."

Like Aamir, he eats right too
Breakfast: Cornflakes and milk and after exercise he had an egg with multigrain bread.
Lunch: Roti, sabzi and daal
Evening snack: Brown bread chutney sandwiches and an egg.
Dinner: Roti, sabzi and daal.

Satya adds, "Like every child, he loves the usual chocolates and ice-cream. I give him a chocolate after every workout.”

Going for the records Ronak's father, Atul Vitha, says, "We have sent Ronak's name for doing the maximum pushups in the least time in the India Book of Records and we hope he makes it. He's inspired by Aamir and his Ghajini look and wants to be as strong as him. He wants to become the strongest child in India and the world.

India Book of Records 2010 Launched - World Records Book

The year was 1954 when Roger Bannister broke the world record and the 100 year old myth that the human being cannot run 1 mile in less that 4 minute. He made a record by running 1 mile in 3 min and 59 sec. Strangely within the end of that year more than 32 people could run 1 mile in less than 4 minutes and within next 2 years more than 300 people could achieve this feat. Physiologist around the world got interested to know the science behind the strange fact that no body could run a mile in less than 4 minutes in last 100 year but the moment one person achieved it, how more than 300 people could duplicate it in less than 2 years.


Then the scientist discovered one of most important principle of human behaviour i.e. if human brain is told about the possiblies and achievement made by others than that reference opens of many mysterious door of possibilities and possibilities of duplicating the feat or achievement become much higher.

There came the need lot of collecting the achievement of human being and making it available to common masses. That was the birth of Record books like The Guinness World Records.

Indian Book of Records is a step forward in that direction for every Indian. It was started during the year 2005 and it is the first book of its kind in both Hindi and English as majority of Indian readers read Hindi.India Book of Records will be available in 12 Indian languages (including Marathi, Bangla, Gujrathi, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi, Assamesse, Kannada etc) from the next year.

Most part of India is rural and a number of talents are hidden there. To make India Book of Records accessible to the remote areas Diamond Pocket Books will be publishing it in 12 languages from next year and will also bring out an economical version of India Book of Records (less than Rs 100) for a rural readers.
