Donning crisp chef whites, a reported 2,847 people gathered in Dubai to set a new world record for the world's largest group of chefs ever to gather in one place.

As part of an initiative by the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing and Emirates Culinary Guild, a Guinness Records adjudicator announced that those who gathered at Meydan racecourse had topped the existing record, which was made in Daejon, South Korea only in May 2012, World Record Academy reports.  All the chefs had to do was sit for five minutes before the record was declared.

Dubai holds a number of Guinness World Records including the tallest building, (the Marriott Marquis Hotel Dubai, in case you were wondering) and the World's Largest Acrylic Panel at the Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo.

More than 24,000 Pakistanis Monday formed the world's largest "human national flag" in the eastern city of Lahore, smashing a five-year-old record set in Hong Kong, officials said.

A total of 24,200 people stood up in the national hockey stadium to make the green and white Pakistani standard, smashing the 2007 record set by 21,726 people in Hong Kong.

"It's amazing, amazing display of unity of 24,200 people here in Lahore tonight," Guinness World Records adjudicator Gareth Deaves told a cheering crowd.

"Every single one of you holds this record," he said, handing over the certificate to Punjab provincial government representative Hamza Shahbaz Sharif.

On Saturday night 42,813 people in the national hockey stadium sang the national anthem together, smashing the previous best of 15,243 held by India.

World's largest sneaker collection set world record by Las Vegas

The record keepers at Guinness certified this month that Jordan Michael Geller's Shoezeum, a shrine to Nike that he says includes one of every model of Air Jordans ever made, holds the record with more than 2,500 pairs, all but eight of which are Nikes.

For a $10 ticket, visitors can see Nikes designed to evoke "birds, bees, flowers and trees," others based on the Simpsons, the Hulk, the Human Torch and even Sesame Street's Oscar the Grouch, and two pairs of yellow lobster Nikes. Only three dozen of those were made, according to Geller.

Geller, 35, said it wasn't until he finished law and business school degrees at the University of San Diego that he began transforming a childhood fascination with Nike sneakers into a life project.

Starting with $300 and more than a dozen credit cards, Geller began a five-year buying and selling spree, hunting down remainders and sales at Nike stores and offering the sneakers on eBay. Along the way, he got hold of some rare Nikes online.

Less than a dozen pairs of the shoes at the museum have been worn - but those include a pair that Michael Jordan laced on as a rookie for the Chicago Bulls. The most expensive? A pair made by Converse commemorating the 30th anniversary of Jordan's 1982 game-winning shot for the University of North Carolina in the NCAA finals. They cost $7,100.

Geller began showing his collection out of a San Diego warehouse last year before he decided to hit the road to Las Vegas. Along the way, he felt guided by destiny - including his name, which he said his parents gave him without thinking of Michael Jordan the player.

"We actually have a video of us doing it because [Guinness] wanted lots of documentation to make sure it actually happened."

Some 714 participants entered the Ringling Bros. and Barnum Bailey Pie Fight Battlezone on AT&T Plaza in front of the American Airlines Center.

Pie-throwers had to endure sweltering temperatures as they attempted to set a new record, while dressed in colourful clown costumes.

Guinness World Records adjudicator, Sara Wilcox, commented that these feats were 'all about ordinary people doing extraordinary things and everyone here tonight had an excellent time and I'm very happy to verify this record'.

Nicole Feld, producer of Ringling Bros.Circus and Barnum & Bailey Clown Alley, said: 'We couldn't think of a better way than with a Guinness World Records attempt to kick off International Clown Week.

Participants used the attempt to raise money for a number of charitable organsiations, including Funnyatrics, Children's Medical Center and The Lewisville Fire and Safety Clowns.

While the shaving foam pie fight category was new, officials put a minimum target of 684 participants on the attempt.

This was based on the old record for the largest custard pie fight, which was achieved at the Olmsted Student Center Parking lot in Des Moines, Iowa in 2011.

Turkmenistan, an authoritarian ex-Soviet state with a knack for setting peculiar Guinness World Records, on Friday unveiled the planet's largest Ferris wheel in an enclosed space.

The 47.6-metre (156-foot) structure holds 24 six-seat cabins that spin inside a massive glass and white steel casing decorated with a giant eight-point star.

Called simply The Universe (Alem), the peculiar structure is "the world's largest Ferris wheel in an enclosed architectural design," a Guinness World Records representative announced.

It opened on the Central Asian state's Day of Revival, Unity and Magtymguly Poetry under the watchful eye of President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, who has previously promised to erase his predecessor's odd personality cult.

The gas-rich nation has instead spent vast resources on erecting unusual monuments in honour of the reclusive government, which strictly controls society and permits no independent media or dissent.

Turkmenistan already brags to have the world's "largest star-shaped architectural feature," the tallest flagpole and the longest carpet.

In 2009, it also launched the world's largest cluster of fountains in a public space and announced plans to build Ashgabat's answer to the Eiffel Tower or the Statue of Liberty.

World’s largest nacho plate set Guinness World Records by Kansas Relays

A heaping 4,689-pound plate of chips, meat, cheese, beans and peppers earned Lawrence a slot in the Guinness Book of World Records on Saturday. The title for the world’s largest nacho plate did not come without a struggle.

For starters, a half-dozen volunteers worked on the project, galvanizing help, collecting resources and prepping food for two weeks. Then early Saturday morning, a crew of 80-plus volunteers began assembling the nachos at Memorial Stadium. At one point, a cooler went out, causing a big portion of the food to spoil.

“It was hectic. ... We lost a couple thousand pounds of food. We had to overcome that and get food locally,” said Rick Brown, general manager of Kansas Athletics’ food vendor, Centerplate. “We run all of the food and beverage for the facilities, so we have extra food. Really it was just about pulling the resources together.”

Brown organized the event, working with Salty Iguana and Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen. Salty Iguana donated food and provided volunteers.

Volunteers aimed to create a tasty nacho, not just a big one. Meat was marinated, onions were chopped, and jalapeno juice was blended with black beans. There were also fresh pico de gallo and cilantro.

The 80-foot nacho plate was finished by noon and served to Kansas Relays ticket-holders with a $1 donation or a canned food item, which will benefit LINK. Even after 1 p.m., when the dish had lost its warmth, people were filing through the stadium, clutching paper plates piled high with nachos. Jan Williams sat on a bench about 1:30 p.m., nibbling at a freshly scooped plate.

“It’s kind of cold, but it’s wonderful,” Williams said. “I think (what they did) is great.”

At least 70 percent of the nachos were consumed. And Brown is confident the record is safe in Lawrence. The last record, which landed at 3,999 pounds, was set in October of 2011 by Ninety Nine Restaurant, in Massachusetts.

This is one wedding album that you may not be able to tuck inside your cupboard. For, this one measures 13ft by width and 17ft by length with about 256 pictures of married couples of India and has the stamp of Guinness record book officials.

The sheer physical size of the photo album, which is about 4.26 meters wide and 5.18 m long weighing 1,000 kilos with 16 pages that used about 4,300 sq ft of fibre reinforced plastic sheets took about two weeks to create.

“We had a dedicated team of 15 people spending 1,600 hours for two weeks on the record album,” says Mr Murugavel Janakiraman, founder & CEO of BharatMatrimony.com, the brain behind this concept. .

The marriage web portal was behind creating the world’s largest photo wedding album in the city on the occasion of its anniversary which it has also decided to celebrate as Matrimony Day (April 14).

“We created Matrimony Day to throw light on our customs and traditions and communicate the importance of marriage,” says Mr Janakiraman. Happy marriages make happy citizens who in turn create a happy country and this initiative is aimed at encouraging people to get married, he adds.

Though the concept came up about three years ago, the original exercise of assimilating wedding pictures started through an initiative called millionweddingpics.com about a year ago.

“We asked people to upload either their wedding pictures or of their parents and friends and it was not restricted only to our clients,” Mr Janakiraman said. Of the 12,288 pictures that were uploaded about 256 pictures were selected for the album.

The previous record for the 'largest photo album' measured 4 m x 5 m (13 ft 1 in x 16 ft 4 in), created by Johnson's Baby China and unveiled in Beijing, China, on 10 June 2008.

The certificate ceremony saw the support of people from all walks of life, VIP and VVIPs of the city.

World's largest collection of Converse sneakers

For about the last eight years of a 20-year teaching career that ended with her retirement in June, Penny Gold would play a game with her students that started on the first day of school.

She would wear a brand new pair of her favorite sneakers, Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars, and then wear a different pair of them every single day for the rest of the school year while her students would try to catch her wearing the same sneakers twice.

“The kids would have laptops or iPads and they would write a journal to try to catch me wearing the same ones,’’ she said. “They would joke that they got me, but they couldn’t fool me because I know I always had a different pair on.’’

Her former students may have another story to tell about their old teacher as that collection of Chucks, which is now up to 733 pairs, has the 63-year-old Florida woman in line to enter the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest collection of Converse sneakers. On Thursday, she had help from family, friends and former students as she went through a crucial part of the process by publicly documenting her collection to be recognized as a Guinness record.

Her shoes were removed from their usual spot in her walk-in closet in her home, photographed in pairs of 24 and then loaded in plastic crates of 24 into a U-Haul rented by her husband. He and a friend then unloaded them in the multi-purpose room at the Jewish Academy of Orlando in Maitland, Fla., where she taught for 20 years. Part of the Guinness verification process is having a public showing where community members are enlisted as witnesses to a record. The only other alternative is if the person going for a record wants staff from Guinness to personally come to verify it, which Gold said can cost between $8,000 and $10,000.

Seven people helped officially count the sneakers, marking up tally sheets that are required to be sent to Guinness. The seven counters also have to submit handwritten notes to Guinness that they counted the sneakers and all came up with 733. The current record is 403 held by Joshua Mueller of Lakewood, Wash.

A spokesperson for Guinness said they have received the claim and are waiting on the evidence of the witness statements, photos and log books to verify each pair is different and a Converse shoe. It can take up to 12 weeks to verify after the documentation is received.

“It was crazy and so much fun,’’ said Gold, who jokingly autographed pictures of the sneakers for the students. “My family all thinks I'm crazy, but they love it, and they support it because I won't spend regular price on the sneakers. If you’re going to have to have a habit, this is at least a clean, healthy habit.’’

   
Gold’s infatuation with Converse Chuck Taylors started when she was a teenager growing up in Brooklyn in the 1960s, when Chucks were the signature shoe of members of the New York Knicks. The shoe fit, so she decided to wear it 700 different ways, with it officially becoming an obsession about 15 years ago after three Converse outlet stores opened in the Orlando area about 25 minutes from her home. Now she is on a first-name basis with employees at the three stores, who set aside several pairs of unusual new ones for her when they come in. Employees from two of the stores were there in person during the public showing on Thursday.

Every pair she has purchased has been done in person, as she has not bought any off eBay. She usually gets sneakers that are normally $60 for about $25 a pair, and the longest she can remember going without snatching up a new pair was a month hiatus this past summer.

Gold has pairs ranging from music-themed sneakers featuring Metallica and the Doors to comic-style Chucks with Batman and Robin on them to ones with a red-and-white tablecloth design and a 3-D fried egg on them. Her prized pair is designed with a map of the New York City subway system on them that shows the stops where she used to get on and off while attending Baruch College.

18.16 Metre Long Home-Made Chocolate Made For World Record 2012

Udhagamandalam: Measuring 18.16 metre in length and 0.75 metre wide, it has broken the record for world's largest chocolate bar.

In a bid to enter record books, a baker in this hilly tourist town of Tamil Nadu has produced a mega home-made milk chocolate measuring 18.16 metre in length and 0.75 metre wide.

NSP Supermarket's Fazloor Rahman, who made the chocolate, told reporters that the existing record is 14.87 metre long and 0.75 metre wide, which was created by a confectionary in Italy last year.

“We have already staked our claim for an entry in the Limca Book of Records and in the process for getting listed in Guiness Book of World records, is underway,” he said.

The chocolate, on display at Hotel Charing Cross since Saturday, was made of 400 kgs of ingredients, inlcuding cocoa and milk. It took three days to complete the task by ten persons, Rahman said.

World's Largest Hula Hoop Workout sets Guinness World Record 2011

It took less than two minutes for more than 200 Longleaf Elementary students to forge their place in Guinness World Record history.
Earlier this fall, the school set out to break the record for world's Largest Hula Hoop Workout. School leaders choreographed a routine that lasted 1 minute, 44 seconds, and invited students from kindergarten through the fifth grade to participate.

When Nov. 8 arrived, 221 kids hit the playground to perform the hula hoop routine — 90 more than the previous high set in the United Kingdom. The school got official word this week that Guinness accepted the record.

"We probably could have had 50 to 100 more kids out there," teacher Donna Qualtiere said. "We just didn't have any more hula hoops."

The school does a hula hoop unit each year for physical education. This fall, students approached Qualtiere asking for a bigger challenge than usual.

Qualtiere told them if they could come up with something, she'd consider it.

The students investigated the Guinness World Records and found several categories. Their teacher sent in an application to pursue a record and left it there.

A couple of months passed, and Guinness officials called from New York, asking the school to break the hula hoop workout record and offering to send judges to rule on the effort.

"We had 2 1/2 weeks to get it all together," Qualtiere said.

That proved enough time. They did their thing for the judges and waited for certification. On Thursday — Guinness World Records Day — the school was enshrined into the record book and featured prominently on the organization's website, alongside the Largest Rag Doll (9 meters tall, in France), the Oldest Yoga Instructor (91-year-old Bernice Mary Bates of Pinellas Park) and the Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Leprechauns (262 people in Dublin).

The excited kids already are asking for another challenge. Qualtiere said that will have to wait: "We're still on a high from this."

A huge 5,570-kg 'laddu' prepared for the recent Ganesh festival in Andhra Pradesh has entered the Guinness World Records.

The laddu was prepared by Suvarnabhoomi Developers Private Limited in Tapeswaram, which is famous for Andhra sweet 'kaja'. Satish Reddy of the real estate firm showed the certificate received from Guinness to media persons in Visakhapatnam.

The laddu was prepared for the 117 ft-tall idol of Ganesha installed in Visakhapatnam in September and was used as 'prasadam' (offering) for devotees during the 21-day long festival. It was the tallest idol installed in the state this year.

As many as 50 workers laboured for a week to make the laddu, the ingredients of which included sugar, flour, moong dal and dry fruits.

The record of the largest laddu (551 kg) was earlier held by a Hindu temple in Britain.

Interestingly, a sweet shop of Tapeswaram had prepared 450 kg laddu for a 55 ft-tall idol at Khairatabad in Hyderabad.

The village in Mandapet mandal of East Godavari district is well known for Kaja sweets. The sweet are famed not only in the entire state but also in the United States.

World’s longest, biggest crocodile awaits Guinness World Record in Philippines

A small Philippine town on the southern island of Mindanao has laid claim to capturing the world’s largest crocodile, measured at 21 feet by Australian zoologist Adam Britton.

Guinness World Records officials say they are awaiting further proof.

Lolong is bigger than Cassius, an Australian saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) and the Guinness record holder, based on measurements taken by zoologist Dr. Adam Briton, who was part of a 10-member National Geographic (NatGeo) team doing a documentary on the Philippine crocodile at the wildlife preservation center at Bunawan town in Agusan del Sur province.

In 2008, Briton was commissioned by the Guinness World Records to measure Cassius.

Captured in the Agusan Marsh in September, Lolong’s length was initially measured at 6.12 meters (20 feet 4 inches), according to Apollo Canoy, a Bunawan municipal councilor, who was with Briton’s group. Cassius is only 5.48 meters (17 feet, 11.75 inches) long.

Cassius was caught at the Northern Territory in Australia in 1984 and is housed at Marineland Melanesia’s crocodile park, according to the Australian newspaper Sydney Morning Herald.

Briton was amazed when he saw Lolong, Canoy told the Philippine Daily Inquirer by phone. “He told us that Lolong is the biggest croc ever captured alive.”

The final measurement will be released “soon,” said Welinda Asis Elorde, the media relations coordinator of Bunawan.

Health good

Nora Javellana, an aide of Briton, said the crocodile expert refused to be interviewed.

But Canoy quoted Briton as declaring that Lolong’s health condition “is good.” The reptile is housed in a concrete cage with a makeshift pond.

“Briton did not have a hard time taming the giant crocodile because he was not moving much,” the councilor said.

According to Elorde, Briton injected a tranquilizer into Lolong and determined the exact length of the reptile using a measuring stick.

Earlier, Elorde said Briton’s findings could also be used by Guinness to authenticate claims that Lolong is the world’s biggest crocodile.

The University of Massachusetts once again has broken a world record this time for the largest stir-fry – weighing in at 4,010 pounds certified.

The previous record was 2,319 pounds set in 2005 by a high school in Klerksdorp, South Africa.

Freddie Hoff from the New York office of the Guinness Book of World Records was there to certify the UMass record and award a plaque to TV Food Network Chef Jet Tila who helped UMass break the record last year for building the world’s longest California roll – 422 feet.

The idea for the world records came from Ken Toong director of auxiliary enterprises.

“It promotes sustainability.” The stir-fry used all local and ingredients, including ingredients from the UMass permaculture garden. And he said he can’t “think of a better way to welcome students back.”

“It’s a great way to kick-off the school year,” said Garett DiStefano, manager of the Berkshire Dining Common, where the preparation took place.

But breaking the record took work – hours and hours of work starting with the building of the 14-foot 2,500-pound stir-fry pan built in North Grafton by All Steel Fabrication, a two-week long process. The wok was then delivered on a flat-bed truck with a state police escort.

Then there was the preparation of all the food. They couldn’t start too far ahead so it began Sunday morning at 6 a.m., DiStefano said. The work continued until midnight with the finishing touches Monday. Trinh Tran who supervised the chopping said her chopping hand was a little numb but she said everyone enjoyed preparing for the challenge.

A crew of about 11 in shifts, chopped 464 pounds of carrots, 343 pounds of broccoli, 216 pounds of pepper, 535 pounds of yellow onions, 208 pounds of bok choy, 50 pounds of garlic plus the chicken. They also had to cut green beans into 3-inch long strips so that “everything can be picked up with chopsticks,” said Chef Anthony Jung.

And he said they didn’t just want to break a record but create a meal that tastes good. Unlike last year, where the temperature prevented diners from being able to eat the California roll, this year the chefs were expecting to serve the stir-fry to more than 3,000. Tents had been set up on the lawn near the Fine Arts Center.

A dozen chefs and dozens more volunteers using rakes and paddles hand-crafted so all would be able to reach into the wok stirred the ingredients to create the stir-fry – a process that took about 40 minutes.

A new standard for cream puffery was set Thursday at the Wisconsin State Fair with a 125.6-pound cream puff certified by Guinness World Records as the world’s largest. As measured by Guinness judge Danny Girton Jr., the giant version of the fair favorite was 7 1/2 inches high and 38 inches wide.

Team Cream Puff, led by David "Puff Daddy" Schmidt of the Wisconsin Bakers Association, crafted a 125.6-pound cream puff Thursday at the Wisconsin State Fair, and quickly had it certified by Guinness World Records as the world's largest.

It is a record that had never been set before, but now it's the new standard for puffery. And they have the commemorative plaque to prove it.

The slab of cream, sandwiched between two shells, was carefully measured out at 7½ inches high and 38 inches wide. The giant cream puff had to be baked in a deck oven - much larger than the ones used to make the fair's trademark cream puffs - for 6½ hours.

"It took a lot of patience," said Tom Barger, assistant manager of the Original Cream Puff Bakery at the fair. "I am relieved that we did it and that it actually worked."

Presiding at Thursday's weigh-in was Danny Girton Jr., the corporate adjudications manager for Guinness World Records. Girton noted that 97% of attempts to set a world record - even ones that are the first time - prove unsuccessful. He said the fair's record cream puff would be included in the 2013 edition of the book.

Since this was the first time, it was decided that the cream puff had to weigh at least 50 pounds to be considered for the record.

"It is three times bigger than the minimum requirement.We blew it out of the water," Schmidt said. "There was a lot of pressure to do this and do this right."

Schmidt noted that the 15.5 gallons of cream used in making the final puff were nothing compared to the 10,000 gallons used during the 11-day fair.

"The size is a reflection of how important it is to the fair," said Susan Crane, one of the bakers assembling the final product on stage. "It is important a record like this was broken in Dairyland."

Ten to 12 people prepared the cream and two outer shells in the late-night hours. Thursday afternoon, Schmidt and his crew assembled the final product on a scale, on stage, in front of a crowd of more than 100 people in Central Park at the State Fair grounds.

Fairgoers climbed on stage to get a closer look, one even sticking his finger in the cream. Nearby, a little girl pleaded to give the monstrous cream puff a hug.

"You can't go wrong with something like this," said Roseann Peskie of New Berlin. "This is unreal."

Lingering onstage in the minutes after the record was announced was 10-year-old Hannah Bast, whose fourth-grade class at Clarendon Avenue School in Mukwonago started an online petition to make cream puffs the official dessert of Wisconsin.

"I was really surprised and proud," Hannah said. It's a really good dessert that represents Wisconsin."

Unfortunately, the giant cream puff didn't meet its logical fate. Shrinking by the minute in the afternoon sun, it was no longer edible, according to Schmidt.

"It has to be disposed of now." he said with a laugh. "It has been in the heat too long."

718 metres of 20sx20s sheeting greige fabric purchased in Karur (Tamil Nadu) was transformed to the final apron displayed at Chennai (Tamil Nadu) today, by the joint effort of teams at the different units of Ambadi. The fabric was bleached at Erode and the apron outline was sketched at the design studio at Gurgaon (Haryana). Finally the cutting, stitching and printing was done at the Kannur unit (Kerala). The cutting team of 26 women spent 182 man-days to cut the fabric and the stitching team of 8 spent 40 man-days to put the apron together.

“The teams had to overcome a few difficulties during the whole process – including, having to factor in the Kerala monsoon effect. For instance, they didn’t have enough space to lay and cut the fabric and had to lay it in the vacant lot outside the factory even as the monsoon rains were threatening to pour down. The Ambadi logo measuring 5 sq metres was a critical part of the design and took longer time to print and dry in the damp weather. In all, the efforts have paid off and today, we have been able to put out a bold statement about our capabilities,” elaborated Vishy Shenoy, Business Head - Ambadi Enterprises.

World's largest ice cream cake Guinness World Record by Dairy Queen

Hundreds of people turned out today in Toronto to witness the construction of the world's largest ice cream cake.

Guinness World Records was on hand at Dundas Square as the 10,130.35-kilogram cake was created.

A forklift brought pallets of vanilla ice cream into the square as 22 workers from Dairy Queen built and iced the cake.

The cake was solid ice cream in the centre, with 90 kilograms of sponge cake on the outside and 136 kilograms of icing and crushed Oreos on top.

The previous record was an 8,000-kilogram cake in Beijing, a record that stood for five years.

Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke shared a few spoonfuls of the cake with 12-year-old Madison Blenkinsop, a patient ambassador from Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children who declared the cake yummy.

Canadian curler Cheryl Bernard says she had two helpings of the cake at the charity event which also marked the 30th anniversary of Dairy Queen's ice cream.

Residents of Barangay Tabuan in Estancia town, Iloilo recently made a huge bowl of halo-halo not only to beat the summer heat but also to pay tribute to one of the country's most popular desserts.

It contained 20 huge blocks of ice, 8 large cans of fruit cocktail, 6 packs of corn flakes, 3 bags of kamote (sweet potato), 20 bags of gulaman (bars of dried seaweed used to make jelly), 2 sacks of sugar and more than 200 cans of evaporated milk.

Barangay Tabuan hopes that the icy treat can make it to the Guinness Book of World Records.

The village has been making giant halo-halo for the past 6 years to celebrate a deliciously sweet fiesta called the Halo-Halo Festival.

Children and adults alike took part in the event by mixing the ingredients into a huge bowl using large metal spoons and funnelling the halo-halo into pitchers and glasses so others can enjoy the icy treat.

Halo-halo, which literally means "mix-mix," is a well-loved Filipino dessert that usually contains shaved ice, milk, beans, fruit bits, gelatin, ice cream, pinipig (pounded and toasted glutinous rice flakes) and leche flan (caramel custard).

World's largest avocado - Peruvian avocado enters Guinness World Record 2011

Twenty six pounds of olives, 33 pounds of eggs, 1100 pounds of avocado and a few other ingredients will combine Monday to create a giant salad for the XV National Avocado Festival. The salad is expected to feed the 4,000 attendees in the Luricocha district of the Ayacuchan province of Huanta.

Fifty women will prepare the salad today in the town's main square. Once prepared the salad will be displayed in a fountain so that visiting tourists can admire and consume the salad. Tomorrow the town celebrates the Festival of the Cross. Visitors can try typical fruits during a fair and visit other attractions during the festival.

The mayor of Luricocha, Edgar Sánchez Cruz, remembers the first festival the city held in 1996. He says the salad that year was prepared with the world's largest avocado, which was entered in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Sánchez Cruz also says that Luricocha is the largest producer of avocados at the national level and has 23 varieties. The avocados from the region are exported to Spain, France, Canada, United States, Chile, Germany, Panama and Argentina.
