Most twins and triplets in one class sets world record by Texas middle school

A Texas middle school has broken the world record for the most twins and triplets in one class.

The seventh-grade at Indian Springs Middle School in Keller took the Guinness World Records title of most multiple births from another Texas school, which set the record last year.

Indian Springs’ tally was 13 sets of twins, one set of triplets and one set of quadruplets. The previous record holders J.J. Pearce High School in Richardson, had 10 sets of twins and one set of triplets.

English teacher and coach Matt Sanchez said: 'I started noticing all the multiples because we had a bunch in athletics.' He also had more twins in his English class.

Sanchez, researched the record and found that the record was 10. 'I realized we had more,' Sanchez said. The seventh grade teacher said the kids enjoyed the novelty of gathering for the record.

'It's a memory to build on and carry with them,' he said. 'It’s like a big family now. They’re forever linked.'

Kyra Johnson, an Indian Springs mom who helped lead the record-breaking effort said:  'We had to send copies of all 33 birth certificates, enrollment documents from the school, a letter from the principal and two notarised witness statements verifying the validity of all the documents.
'As you can imagine, it took several weeks to pull all of this together.'

Her sons Cade and Camden Johnson have always been in schools with lots of multiples. Cade said: 'It seemed normal to me because we had a bunch of friends who were twins.'

According to the National Center for Health Statistics, about 2.8 percent of births were twins in 1998, the year most of the seventh-graders were born. For triplets, the share was 0.18 percent, or fewer than 2 in 1,000 births, while 627 births nationwide were quadruplet.

Colin Decker is blazing his way into the Guinness World Record books.

The Vancouver stuntman surpassed the world record for longest full-body burn on the weekend, using his company’s patented fire-retardation gel to accomplish the death-defying feat.

“It was my fourth attempt at it,” Decker told The Province on Monday.Decker credited ideal weather conditions for his successful burn.

Burning from head to toe for three minutes and 27 seconds puts him ahead of Ted Batchelor, who is the current holder of the world record, according to Guinness, with a full-body burn for two minutes and 38 seconds.

When Decker tried to break the record a year ago, he was thwarted by swirling winds.

“They pushed fire in my face all the time,” he recalled. “I had no other choice than to burn the hell out of my face or pull the chute and do it another day.”

Decker, his partner in Fire 4 Hire, Dustin Brooks, and a number of friends pulled off their biggest stunt on Saturday afternoon in the Maple Ridge backyard of a friend.

The friend, another stuntman in the movie industry, “loves a good barbecue,” Decker joked.

He said the heat became too great toward the end of the stunt, but he never panicked.

“I knew where I needed to get to and I knew where my safeties were,” he said.

“At the end, I did the nasty plunge into the pool,” Decker said of a kiddie pool that had been filled with water.

“We had seven people on extinguishers, as well, and an exterior water source.”

The protective gel is a proprietary secret.

Decker and Brooks have performed fiery stunts in about 50 movies, TV productions and live performances since they formed Fire 4 Hire in 2005.

“The trick to the burn is that you have to continually add to the fuel you have on you because you are consuming fuel at an alarming rate,” he confided. (That way, the fire burns the fuel and not the gel.)

The gel developed by Decker and Brooks was nominated for an Oscar in 2007, but did not win the Academy Award for scientific and technical achievement.

“I couldn’t have done it without all the people that surrounded me on Saturday,” he added.

Bendy Vijay Sharma - dubbed 'Rubber Man' - hopes to prove he is the world's most flexible fella, by contorting his limbs into a series of insane positions.

The 27-year-old shop-assistant can wrap his legs over his head, wriggle through a tennis-racket head and wind his arms completely behind his back.

Vijay, from Jhunjunum, Rajasthan, has already been named the most bendy man in India by the country's 'Limca' version of the Guinness Book of World Records.

And the contortionist - who models himself on martial arts legend Jackie Chan - now wants to stun the world with his twisty antics.

Vijay yesterday said: "It was when I was training for martial arts as a boy that I realised my body was so bendable I might be capable of setting a world record in flexibility.
"The grand masters of martial arts became a source of motivation for me."

Vijay spent years squeezing into tiny spaces, curling his body into boxes and attempting to drink from bottles held between his toes.

And, after seeing the tennis racket stunt in the Guinness Book of World Records, he said he bought a tennis racket the next day, removed the strings and attempted to pass through the nine-and-a-half-inch frame.

Vijay said: "I tried to get through it, but got stuck for the entire night."I had to shut myself in my room and sleep with it. I got up at 3am and tried to get out of it."I began to bleed but that didn't stop me and I can do it now."

Longest holding breath underwater break world record

A Swiss diver has broken the world record for holding his breath underwater - for 19 minutes and 21 seconds.

Freediver Peter Colat, 38, said the first 12 minutes without air were 'no problem' after plunging into a water tank at a holiday fair in St Gallen, Switzerland.

Mr Colat smashed the previous record held by Italian Nicola Putignano by 19 seconds.

Under the rules for so-called 'static apnea' laid down by the Guinness World Records, Mr Colat was allowed to breath pure oxygen for ten minutes before the feat yesterday.

He said afterwards: 'The first 12 minutes were not a problem and I felt the first need to breathe very late, but because of this it was even stronger.'

Magician David Blaine set a world record in 2008 when he held his breath for 17 minutes and 4 seconds, breaking Mr Colat's previous record of 16 minutes and 32 seconds on Oprah Winfrey's talk show.

According to the British Freediving Association, participants must 'enter a very relaxed state so as to minimise oxygen consumption.'

Most Kisses World Record set by DJ Paul Winstanley

SHOPPERS in Blackburn have created a new world record — for most kisses in one minute.
DJ Paul Winstanley, 28, said he was “all kissed-out” after he was smooched 110 times in just 60 seconds outside The Mall in Blackburn.

He enlisted the help of 20 women and girls in the bid which saw him kissed on average more than three times per second.

DJ Paul Winstanley, who lives in Mellor, stepped in at the last minute after his colleague at The Bee radio station Andy Cook had to pull out after developing a throat ulcer.

He said: “It was great fun and I actually can’t believe that we got the record.

"My girlfriend Liz was here watching and I would like to apologise to her for kissing so many girls.

"I think I owe her a box of chocolates!”

The event, which took place yesterday afternoon in King William Street, was filmed and will be sent off to the official adjudicators at Guinness World Records for the record to be confirmed.

The record attempt saw a line of women give Paul a peck on the cheek before rejoining the end of the queue for another kiss.

Blind grandmother's record breaking fish 'weighed two Cheryl Coles

A blind grandmother from London, Sheila Penfold, has entered the record books for
catching the biggest ever freshwater fish by a British woman.

The 56 year-old, from Wandsworth, south west London, was nearly dragged into the river when the monster catfish took her bait.

Mrs Penfold, who is 5ft 3ins tall, used a bait of halibut pellets to snare the 8ft 2ins long catfish on the River Ebro near Barcelona.

She had to be directed by husband Alan and son Arthur as she tried to reel it in because she couldn't see the aquatic beast due to her poor eyesight.

But after a 30 minute fight Mrs Penfold finally landed the prized catch that weighed 214lbs or 15st 4lbs, or the equivilent of two Cheryl Coles.

The specimen was so big it could only be caught after her husband, a 62-year-old retired gardener, Arthur and two colleagues to heave it into a weighing slip.

The fish dwarfed her husband's best effort of 176lbs during the fishing trip to Spain and set a record for the biggest freshwater fish caught by a British woman before.
It is also the biggest fish caught by a woman in Spain.


Mrs Penfold, who is partially sighted but registered blind, said she only realised how big her catch was when she saw it close up.

"I was exhausted but elated afterwards," she said.

"The record has taken a while to sink in.

"I'm still walking around with a smile on my face."

She added: "But it goes to show that just because you are blind it doesn't stop you breaking records like this."

"I had three rods lined up on the bank and when one of them tipped over Arthur told me which one it was.

"I grabbed hold of it and was immediatly pulled towards the water. Luckily I managed to stop myself and I started to reel it in."

She continued: "But for some reason I turned round and said that I didn't think it was going to be a big one.

"Then all of a sudden it took off again and it took the line of the reel.

"I spent about half-an-hour reeling it in. When it broke the surface of the water Alan told me it was a big size.

"I saw it for the first time when it was near the edge and it looked a monster."

After having her picture taken with it, she returned the catfish back into the water in good health.

She added: "Alan wasn't at all jealous and was really pleased for me."

Mr Penfold said: "She isn't really a big woman but she stuck to it and got it in the end, although it took everything out of her.

"She did brilliantly, especially as she is registered blind."

The record for the biggest fish caught in Britain by a woman is a 69lbs 8oz catfish caught by Bev Street, 46, from Skegness, Lincs.

Mike Heylin, of the British Records Fish Committee, said: "I would think this is the biggest freshwater fish caught by a British woman.
