Madonna - Top selling Female Recording Artist of all time Guinness World Record

Madonna - Top selling Female Recording Artist of all time Guinness World Record

She's a multi-platinum selling pop superstar and is recognised as the world's top-selling female recording artist of all time by the Guinness World Records.

And although she's still enjoying success at the top of the U.S. charts, Madonna looks set to obtain a less enticing record by the end of this week.

The Material Girl's new album is on schedule to set the record for the biggest second week sales drop in history.

They state it will fall from 359,000 copies in its first week of release to around 46,000 in its second week in shops.

The 53-year-old Queen of Pop scored the biggest selling debut album of 2012 in America when it was released last week.

MDNA sold an impressive 359,000 units, making it her eighth album to top the Billboard 200 albums chart.

But a report released after she landed at the top spot suggested Madonna had resorted to some trickery in a bid to secure a number one spot on the Billboard charts, as her album wasn't sold the typical way.

Her label, Interscope, and Live Nation, which owns Ticketmaster, combined her latest album with ticket sales to her upcoming concert tour.

For every ticket that was sold to one of her shows, buyers also received a copy of MDNA.

They had the option of downloading on iTunes for free or receiving a hard copy in the post.

It isn't yet known how many album sales were directly attributed to concert ticket purchases.

Harry Potter Movie Series World Records

Harry Potter Movie Series World Records

Let's be honest: there are more than a handful of world records set by "Harry Potter." It's an awesome movie series and some could say it's just as awesome as the books! Right now, it doesn't matter if you disagree—all that matters right now is the fact that "Harry Potter" is a record-breaking, insanely successful movie franchaise that continues to sell thousands of DVDs every year.
Highest Grossing Opening Weekend Most of the records set by "Harry Potter" movies were set by the very last movie—"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2." All the kiddies dressed up in their robes and glasses, and they helped the movie earn a world record! The last movie in the series made $481,489,427 around the world between July 15 and July 16.

Highest Grossing Opening Day It's not surprising that along with the weekend grossing record comes the record for the highest grossing opening day. The last movie in the series earned a total of $91,071,119 in the United States on opening day. There's no arguing the movie definitely deserved it.

Fastest to Gross $150,000,000 If you attended the midnight showing of the last movie, you'll understand this record. Parking lots were packed-full of eager teenagers and even a large number of adults. There were people purchasing tickets weeks before opening night.

Highest Grossing Film Series The "Harry Potter" films have dominated the film industry for more than ten years now and they show no sign of leaving our minds any time soon. For some, it has been the highlight of their childhood and adults have become obsessed with everything Harry Potter. The films grossed a whopping $6,853,593,569 by July 19 and that number is still rising steadily.

Highest Pre-Opening Sales As we said before, the last "Harry Potter" movie made more on opening day than any other movie in history. This could be due to the rise in ticket costs or it could be because of their enormous fanbase. What's even more interesting, though, is the record broken by the movie for the most pre-opening sales.

Watching Most Number Movie Guinness world Record Breaker Gwilym Hughes Dies

You've probably never heard of Gwilym Hughes, but he held one of the coolest, most enviable records of all time. The Welshman, who recently died at age 65, had watched over 28,000 movies (a world record, according to Guinness) during the course of his life.

The BBC hosts a buzzy article on the world's ultimate movie buff. The first film he ever watched was "King Solomon's Mines" in 1953, but his all-time number-one flick was "Lawrence of Arabia," starring Peter O'Toole.

Despite averaging well over a movie per day during his 65 years, Hughes was careful to point out that he wasn't obsessed with movies. "I watch films from about 9pm until about 12. Sometimes I could set up one on the televisions in the study. It works out about 10 to 14 films a week," he said. He never gets bored though. "I still watch every film with great keenness," he said.

So, what did Hughes think of modern movies? An article from The Free Library quotes the cinephile as saying, "My taste is a bit old-fashioned and I wouldn't cross the road to see some of today's movies." Amen to that. His fascination with films started when he was a young boy with an illness that left him in a hospital for over two years.

A blog from Dorkosphere.com explains that Hughes documented every movie he watched, keeping notebooks with his thoughts. According to Dorkosphere, Hughes' other favorite movies (besides "Lawrence of Arabia") were "The Third Man," "Zulu," "The Dam Busters," and "The Searchers."

If you haven't seen those movies, you may want to check them out. After all, there's no bigger authority on the greatest movies than the person who watched more than 28,000 of them.
