World's largest pineapple - Biggest pineapple in the world

Christine McCallum and her 8.28kg monster pineapple are in the 2013 Guinness World Records.

The gardener, of Bakewell, Palmerston, said: "I'm over the moon. I just couldn't believe it."

But Ms McCallum, 61, said there was one person who was even more excited than she was about the monumental feat - her 10-year-old grandson Isaac Hammond.

A Northern Territory gardener has been officially listed as producing the world's largest pineapple. Christine McCallum, 61, made headlines last November after growing an 8.28kg pineapple that had a girth of 66cm and a length of 32cm.

Ms McCallum, who lives in the Darwin satellite city of Palmerston, told the NT News that she had been named in the 2013 Guinness World Records, an accomplishment that impressed her grandson. "He was jumping up and down and hugging me saying `you're so cool, you're famous'," the paper reported.

Prior to Ms McCallum's efforts, the world's largest pineapple was an 8.06kg fruit grown in Papua New Guinea.
