Walt Disney World Marathon 2012 - Marathon World Record 2012

This weekend Central Florida is the center of the running world as thousands lace up their tennis shoes and pound the pavement!

More than 50,000 people are taking over the happiest place on earth for the 19th annual Walt Disney World Marathon weekend.

The first run, which started at about 5:35 a.m. Saturday, was a half marathon had an estimated 26,500 runners. The second run Sunday morning will be a full marathon – 26.2 miles. There are even some runners who will take part in both marathons – known as the “Goofy Challenge,” which will be a combined 39.3 miles!


It’s not just runners who will be shine in the races this weekend, some reality stars will take part in the marathons. Ethan Zohn, from Survivor/Amazing Race, Jenna Morasca, from Survivor/Amazing Race, and Trista and Ryan Sutter, from the Bachelor, are among the celebrities entered in the weekend of events at Walt Disney World Resort.

All are running in the half marathon on Saturday along with four wounded veterans who are part of the Achilles Freedom Team, which supports disabled runners. Workout guru Tony Horton, founder of the P90X workout, will be on hand to prepare runners for their race.

To commemorate the 15th anniversary of the half marathon, all finishers will be awarded a one-of-a-kind Donald Duck half marathon medal.
