DENVER - A woman in Littleton is hoping to get into the Guinness World Records for having the longest legs in America.
At 6-foot, 4-inches tall, Laura Franks stands out in a crowd. She says she gets stared at all the time and asked whether she plays basketball.
Franks says her legs measure 45 inches from the bottom of her foot to the top of her hip. Her inseam is 39 inches. She has to have pants custom made either locally or online.
She decided to contact the Guinness Book of World Records Sunday night.
"I was watching a TV show about the world's tallest people and watching it, I didn't feel weird at all. I felt like, 'Well, that's me. That's normal,'" Franks said. "There was a girl on there with a 37-inch inseam and I said, 'Well, I have a 39. I've got longer legs than she does.' So, I just thought I'd see if I was taller than the tallest."
Even though she does have long legs, Franks' feet are pretty average. She's a size 10.
Franks says she has been 6'4 since she was 12 years old. She says used to hate always being so much taller than all the girls and boys in class, but has since learned to accept and be proud of her height.
Franks says the biggest problems with being so tall is shopping for clothes, and finding guys taller than her to date.
As for all those people who wonder if she's played basketball, she did play in high school but because of injuries did not play in college.
Franks says being tall runs in her family. Her father is 6-foot, 6-inches, her brother is 6-foot, 9-inches and her mother is the smallest one at 5-foot, 10-inches.
Franks expects to hear back from Guinness World Records in four to six weeks.
