KUWAIT CITY, A new Guinness World Record for the world’s largest packaged product display was broken on Sunday at TSC Wholesale Center — Shuwaikh. The Sultan Center, Al-Mansouriya Consumer Trading Company and Olayan Kimberly Clark teamed up and Kleenex boxes were stacked by over 45 personnel in a span of 10-12 hours to achieve the 289 meters cubed historic feat in Kuwait.
Speaking on the occasion, which was attended by the companies’ top management, suppliers and TSC customers, Guinness World Record representative, Jack Brockbank said that the record is based on the overall total area and measurements were taken along the way.
“It is not the number of boxes; it is the meters cubed measurement that is judged, which in this case 289 meters cubed. I was present while they were constructing the packaged product and measurements were taken to verify that everything is done according to guidelines,” he said.
Brockbank added that the previous record was held in Abu Dhabi and that they had 269 meters cubed, therefore Kuwait has beaten that record by a whole 20 cubed meters. He awarded The Sultan Center, Al-Mansouriya Consumer Trading Co. and the Kimberly Clark team with Certificate of Guinness recognition.
“It is very impressive; I don’t expect anyone will beat that in the near future although the nature of record breaking is always evolving. This record will be shortlisted for inclusion in the 2011 Guinness World Record Book. I can’t say for sure whether it will be included because we have over 60,000 records in total and there are four to five thousand in each book,” said Brockbank.
General Manager of Al-Mansouriya Consumer Trading Company, a sister company to Jassim Al-Wazzan Group, Kapil Khosla commented that options given to them by Guinness to stack were bottles or boxes.
“We chose to stack boxes. This year is a year of recognition for us and we wanted to raise the bar further so we attempted to achieve this world record. It took us almost twelve hours and there were 45 people working with us. We started at 9 pm and finished at 8 am so it was a very hectic day for us. We didn’t imagine the amount of effort that it would take,” said Khosla thanking all the teams that were involved in executing this monumental display.
TSC’s Chief Commercial Officer, Faris Hamdan, added the TSC values its long lasting partnerships with it suppliers and that this record breaking achievement is the result of the solid teamwork between two companies.
On his part, Ali Abdul Rahman Al-Wazzan said that the company has had a long partnership with Kimberly Clark over the years and it wanted to do something to represent this long history.
