Christmas world record attempt for Radio Northwick Park hospital

A
hospital radio station is set for a Christmas Day world record-breaking attempt to hold the biggest present giveaway.

Radio Northwick Park, which broadcasts to patients in the hospital in Watford Road, is teaming up with charity The Kindness Offensive to give out presents to children at the hospital and try and set the record.

The station is also hosting a show with Harrow Community Radio every Saturday in the run-up to Christmas to allow patients to pick their festive favourites, as well as a live request show on Christmas Day itself.

Chairman Matt Blank said: “It's not nice to be in on Christmas Day itself, so on December 25 we'll be doing a special live request show, aimed heavily at the children in the hospital.”

HCG forms set Limca Book of Record - Largest human awareness ribbon for breast cancer

HCG forms set Limca Book of Record - Largest human awareness ribbon for breast cancer.

Bangaloreans from all walks of life came together to create awareness about breast cancer here on Sunday. The event was organised by HealthCare Global Enterprises Ltd. (HCG) to commemorate the Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is observed in October every year.

As many as 6,583 people formed the largest pink ribbon, symbolising breast cancer awareness, at the Sullivan Police Grounds here. Donning pink t-shirts, holding pink umbrellas and wearing pink head-gears, the participants that included cancer survivors, cancer patients, care givers, nurses, corporate workers and students, stood for 10 minutes in the shape of a ribbon.

Said to be the largest human awareness ribbon, the attempt will be sent to the Guinness Book of World Records for adjudication. The current record for the largest human awareness ribbon is held by Saudi Arabia. Organisers claimed that the record will be featured in the 2013 edition of Limca Book of Records.

B.S. Ajaikumar, chairman of HCG, said that the event was organised to spread awareness about breast cancer.

“The fear of cancer is worse than the disease itself. In India, there is lack of awareness on health and people do not undergo regular preventive health check-up. Preventive check-up is important for early diagnosis of cancer. We have issued 6,000 mammography coupons free to the participants, which will be the first step in eradicating the social stigma associated with the word ‘cancer',” he said.

Gopinath K.S., surgical oncologist, who participated in the event, said that such initiatives were important. “Most patients come for consultation only after the disease has reached an advanced stage. There is no better way to educate people that cancer is curable in its early stages. The phobia of cancer is worse than the disease itself,” he said.

AUGUSTA, GA, USA -- Dr Walter Watson, known to many as “Papa Doc”, has delivered 18,000 babies in his 100 years of life - celebrated last month -and still comes into the clinic regularly to see his patients - setting the world record for the Oldest Practicing Doctor.

Dr Walter Watson, the world's Oldest Practicing Doctor has delivered over 18,000 babies over the years and although he has retired from that particular role, he still makes an effort to see around 5 patients every day, including new ones. There are many Augusta-area families that have several generations of babies delivered by the doctor.

University Hospital in Augusta honoured their oldest and most valued obstetrician and gynaecologist, whose name is already brandished on the entrance to the health facility’s women’s centre.

People came to the hospital to honor Watson and his wife Audrey and say happy birthday. They wore stickers that declared them a "Watson Baby" or the mother of a "Watson Baby," often both.

However, Watson says he doesn't feel a day over 99.
"People think it is hard today," Watson said. "It doesn't compare with '31."

In an interview with CNN, Watson says that he served in the army before becoming a qualified doctor in May 1947.

The doc’s entry into the trade was far from easy. Watson spent 7 years working on a farm in Edgefield doing hard labour for as little as 50 cents a day in order to afford medical school.

The world's Oldest Practicing Doctor reportedly enrolled at the Medical College of Georgia in 1939, and did his residency at University Hospital, which he never left.

According to Watson himself, he stopped delivering babies and conducting surgery around 1996, however still comes into the clinic regularly to see his patients.

His colleagues praise him for his “old-school” approach towards healthcare, which is all about actually taking care of the patients. The doc himself places a particular emphasis on family values.

Many babies in the town were delivered by him, including his partner at the hospital, Dr Michael McDonough. His wife Audrey remarked that her husband is recognised everywhere.
