World’s Oldest Supermodel Daphne Selfe - World’s Oldest Fashion model

World’s Oldest Supermodel Daphne Selfe - World’s Oldest Fashion model

British beauty Daphne Selfe, 83, is still walking catwalks, starring in campaigns and hasn't indulged in any cosmetic enhancements  - setting the world record for the Oldest Supermodel

Looking around the headquarters of the Models 1 agency in Covent Garden, there are giant posters showing the most famous girls (and I mean girls, not women) on their books — Amber Le Bon, Bar Refaeli, Noemie Lenoir.

But there is one poster that shows a woman who is very different from the rest. A mane of silver hair, an etiolated neck, high cheekbones, bright, intelligent, lively eyes, and all 83 of her years etched upon her face.

This is Daphne Selfe. She is certainly one of the most beautiful women on the wall, and also one of the bravest — because she has just agreed to pose as Madonna in her prime. And if that were not enough, she is wearing only the iconic conical bra and corset made by Jean Paul Gaultier for the singer’s Blonde Ambition tour in 1990.

It’s a replica, but it’s still ‘terribly unforgiving. I thought they might have done a bit of airbrushing!’ says Daphne, joking. ‘I’m not that brave. I used to pose nude, you know, for artists including Barbara Hepworth.’

For a woman who has spent a lifetime in front of the camera, Daphne is surprisingly without vanity. She pulls up her bobbly sweater to show me her arms. ‘It’s these, you see,’ she says, rubbing at the brown speckles.

‘So dreadful, which is why I normally wear long sleeves. My body is OK when I lie down, it settles rather. But, hey, what the hell, it was all for a good cause.’

The cause is Oxfam’s Big Bra Hunt. Apparently, the average woman in the UK owns nine bras, three of which she never wears. And while we readily donate clothes to charity, most of us don’t realise that women in developing countries need our bras, too.

Oxfam hopes the photograph of Daphne, taken by star fashion photographer Perou (everyone on the shoot worked for no fee) will change all that. Oxfam is sending its first batches of bras to Senegal, West Africa, where, traditionally, women ‘just flop around’, according to Sarah Farquhar, head of Oxfam Trading. ‘A good bra makes them feel more elegant.’

‘I’ve never had anything done to my face,’ Daphne says, pulling it this way and that. ‘Not that poison, not a facelift. I think it’s a waste of money. Anyway, I couldn’t afford it!’

So how on earth does she do it, remain so fit, so lively in her slacks and flats, so amazing!

‘I think it’s partly down to good genes. My mother was a livewire, she lived until she was 95. I’ve never really bothered with skin cream or anything like that, although I might use a bit of Boots. I hate anything you can’t take the top off and dig around for what’s left in the bottom.

‘I did dye my hair at home for a while when I started to go grey in my early 40s. Occasionally, I would go into L’Oreal as a guinea pig, but it became too much of a bother.

My hair is long now because it’s cheaper, I don’t have to do anything, but put it in a topknot or a French pleat. It avoids that old lady permed look, lengthens the neck and lifts the face. I’ve got so many friends who don’t touch the make-up pot. You should keep looking nice, it makes you feel so much better.’

Then I remind Daphne of another photograph taken of her in barely anything but a bra: she is in a floral bikini in the early Fifties. She looks beautiful, but so very different to today’s models: she has a tiny waist (‘It was 24in, today it’s 27in! At least I haven’t got fat’), but rather chunky thighs, and wide shoulders.

‘I would never have made it starting out today,’ she admits. ‘I was too short, just 5ft 7in, with wide shoulders from all the riding I did as a young girl. But no one ever asked me to lose weight. Rationing was in place until 1954, so you were always grateful to get good food.’

Was she waxed in preparation for that bikini photograph? ‘No! Of course not. There was nothing like that. I do feel sorry for young girls today, all the things they do to themselves.’

Dr.John Williams-oldest fighter to ever set Guinness world record - Mixed Martial Arts fighter

Mixed Martial Arts fighter Dr.John Williams oldest fighter to ever set Guinness world record 2010.

To the amazement of many, Dr. John Williams, a 70-year-old Mixed Martial Arts fighter, has willingly scheduled himself to take on Larry Brubaker (age 49) as part of the “Wild Card” event for Elite 1 MMA Productions at the Casino New-Nouveau Brunswick in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, on July 24th.

Dr. Williams, a current Guinness world record holder, will attempt to break two new Guinness world records with the assistance from Mr. Brubaker, as the oldest fighter to ever compete inside of an MMA cage, as well as, the oldest combined age for any two fighters in the history of MMA.

All of this begs the question—is age really just a number?

Well, Dr. Williams certainly thinks so.

In fact, despite certain criticisms, this 34th generation Gunshi, in Saigo Ha Daito-Ryu Aiki Bujutsu (a 1200-year-old Samurai Art) is out to prove it.

In researching Dr. Williams, I have quickly come to the realization that it is near impossible to condense this man’s entire life into a few simple paragraphs that will in any way do justice to his amazing and unique life experiences.

Nevertheless, I will try…

Dr. John J. Williams (a.k.a. Gray Wolf) was born on March 7th, 1940, in a small town in Eastern Canada. His parents were both French speaking Native American Indians of the Wabenaki tribal nation and he is the direct bloodline descendant of the Wabanaki War Chief, Madockaweando.

Dr. Williams began training in martial arts and boxing back in 1947 at the age of 7.

By the age of 16, Dr. Williams had already been introduced to Olympic-style weightlifting, Kodokan Judo, and Tani-Ha Jiu-Jitsu.

By the time he was 23-years-old, Dr. Williams was giving strongman demonstrations such as bending spikes, tearing phonebooks and licenses plates in half, and holding two jeeps from going in the opposite directions. His most impressive feat of strength however, was a one hand dead-lift with 500 pounds.

In later years, Dr. Williams also went on to study Taekwondo, Hapkido, and Kyokushinkai Karate.

As fate would have it, Dr. Williams eventually became the inheritor of Saigo Ha Daito-Ryu in 1972 after his master, Pok Shen, was diagnosed with lung cancer. Since there were no other senior students studying under Master Shen, Dr. Williams was asked to become the successor.

In 1987, Dr. Williams set his first Guinness world record for breaking multiple blocks of ice with a single punch (11 inches thick, by 22 inches wide, by 42 inches long, and 10 stacks high).

Fast forward 23-years later and amazingly, this record still stands today (although his son Tim is the only other man to tie the record).

Throughout his years of travelling and living in the USA, Dr. Williams participated in several university courses such as psychology, philosophy, hypnotism, and eventually, he became a legally ordained Baptist minister. He was later awarded a Doctorate in Theology and eventually taught as a professor at Holland College and Success College, as well as, the Julian College of Arts & Sciences.

In 1989, Dr. Williams completed a course in Hypnotherapy and he began treating clients for various ailments. By 1995, Dr. Williams had completed his course in EFT (based on Chinese acupuncture), which he combined with hypnotism to treat sexual assault victims.

In 1996, Dr. Williams was awarded a Doctorate in Linguistics from the Cyber College out of Japan for his work teaching the English language to Japanese high school students over the internet.

By the year 2000, Dr. Williams was acknowledged by the Canadian Court System as an expert on the Eastern Woodland Indians and their treaty rights.

Currently, Dr. Williams is the site coordinator for Elite 1 MMA Productions.

World’s oldest pig

When Oscar was crowned the Guinness Book of World Records' oldest living pig, he had a party and celebrated with friends.

Wearing a custom-made necklace bearing his name, the 20-year-old potbellied pig made the rounds and grunted hellos at family, neighbors and old babysitters, who shared their memories of the times they'd had together.

Remember when your mom had to train you from jumping on the couch because you'd gotten too big?

"Each person has a different memory of Osc," says owner Stacy Kimbell, who shares her Dallas home with Oscar, her boyfriend Terry Mackin, Mackin's potbellied pig Ziffle, two guinea pigs and a cat.

Yes, Kimbell and Mackin each have their own pigs, and it was a very strange kind of serendipity that it ended up that way. The couple first met at a club, then had a safe first date over lunch, after which they discovered their unlikely common thread.

When the couple moved in together, they expected Oscar and Ziffle to get along and become best friends. But it wasn't to be — 10 years later, the two former single pigs are pretty much still single pigs.

"They don't like each other," Kimbell tells PEOPLEPets.com. "They have two separate houses, they fight over who stands on what rug. We had great hopes for them, but it didn't work out."

130-lb. Oscar is still getting along fine, but showing signs of his old age. He suffers from arthritis and takes chewable pills and turmeric powder to help with his joint pain. His diet has also gotten healthier: he now consumes mostly fruits and vegetables. A typical meal is canned or fresh peaches, pumpkin or pears, along with some olive oil, apples and nuts.

Kimbell used to walk Oscar on a leash, but he moves around much more slowly now, so he sticks to the backyard and inside the house. Sometimes, in the middle of the day, Kimbell will hear him calling for her.

Oscar will let out a long growl that means, "Where are you in the house? I'm looking for you."

AUGUSTA, GA, USA -- Dr Walter Watson, known to many as “Papa Doc”, has delivered 18,000 babies in his 100 years of life - celebrated last month -and still comes into the clinic regularly to see his patients - setting the world record for the Oldest Practicing Doctor.

Dr Walter Watson, the world's Oldest Practicing Doctor has delivered over 18,000 babies over the years and although he has retired from that particular role, he still makes an effort to see around 5 patients every day, including new ones. There are many Augusta-area families that have several generations of babies delivered by the doctor.

University Hospital in Augusta honoured their oldest and most valued obstetrician and gynaecologist, whose name is already brandished on the entrance to the health facility’s women’s centre.

People came to the hospital to honor Watson and his wife Audrey and say happy birthday. They wore stickers that declared them a "Watson Baby" or the mother of a "Watson Baby," often both.

However, Watson says he doesn't feel a day over 99.
"People think it is hard today," Watson said. "It doesn't compare with '31."

In an interview with CNN, Watson says that he served in the army before becoming a qualified doctor in May 1947.

The doc’s entry into the trade was far from easy. Watson spent 7 years working on a farm in Edgefield doing hard labour for as little as 50 cents a day in order to afford medical school.

The world's Oldest Practicing Doctor reportedly enrolled at the Medical College of Georgia in 1939, and did his residency at University Hospital, which he never left.

According to Watson himself, he stopped delivering babies and conducting surgery around 1996, however still comes into the clinic regularly to see his patients.

His colleagues praise him for his “old-school” approach towards healthcare, which is all about actually taking care of the patients. The doc himself places a particular emphasis on family values.

Many babies in the town were delivered by him, including his partner at the hospital, Dr Michael McDonough. His wife Audrey remarked that her husband is recognised everywhere.

World's oldest and most expensive camera set world record

World's oldest and most expensive camera set world record, world oldest camera photo, world oldest camera picture
A Giroux “Daguerreotype” – the world’s first commercially-produced camera – is expected to set a world record price when it goes up for auction this May at WestLicht Auctions in Vienna. The previously undocumented camera has been in private ownership in northern Germany for generations and is in remarkable condition given it is 170 years old.

The wooden sliding-box camera was made in Paris in September 1839 by Alphonse Giroux, the brother-in-law of Louis Jacques Mande Daguerre, the inventor of the first practicable photographic process. Daguerre even signed the camera to verify its authenticity. Only a few of these cameras are known to exist worldwide and all of those are in public museums.

Every detail including the plaque signed by Daguerre, the lens, the black velvet interior and the ground-glass screen are in their original state and the camera also comes with the extremely rare original instructions in German. These instructions, entitled, “Praktische Beschreibung des Daguerreotyp’s” were published by Georg Gropius in Berlin 1839 and feature 24 12x20cm pages with 18 illustrations in 5 plates showing the equipment used for producing Daguerreotypes in accordance with Daguerre’s invention.

The cameras produced by Daguerre’s brother-in-law are more opulently finished that those of the competition and the selling price of 400 Francs was very high, representing approximately the annual income of an average working man at the time. There is no record of the total number of cameras that Giroux produced, but since cheaper and improved cameras came onto the market relatively quickly it is assumed that the numbers were limited.

Making Daguerrotypes is a relatively involved process and the camera was originally sold with all the equipment necessary for their production. This included fuming and mercury boxes, a spirit burner, the silver-covered copper plates and the necessary chemicals. In total all the required equipment weighed around 50 kg (110 lb).

world's oldest camera world record, oldest camera images, oldest camera photo, most expensive camera pictures,

How it works

The camera itself consists of two boxes made of different kinds of wood that slide into each other. The larger of the two, which has the lens attached to it, is fixed to the base plate. The back of the smaller box is either the ground glass plate or the holder insert and it fits into the forward box so that the whole camera is lightproof. The interior is lined with black velvet. In order to bring the image into focus the rear box is moved back or forwards along the wooden camera base.

It can then be fixed in position by means of a brass screw, while a fold-out mirror behind the ground-glass screen allows the image to be seen while standing upright.

Initially Daguerre used plates of pure silver but later switched to plates made of silver-plated copper to save on costs. Before the exposure was made the plates were fumed with iodine or bromine inside a special wooden box with the aid of a spirit burner. Under the influence of this fuming process, light-sensitive silver iodide formed on the surface of the plate.

In order to maximise the brightness of the image while focusing the lens’s outer brass fitting was removed. During the exposure the ground glass screen was exchanged for the (now) light sensitive plate (167 x 216 mm). Before the exposure was made the diaphragm was replaced and a swiveling cap served as a shutter. Daguerre suggested exposure times of between 3 and 30 minutes, depending on light conditions.

After the plate was exposed, the photograph was developed with the aid of mercury fumes which adhered to the surface producing a very faint silver image. Development and fixation in a salt or cyanide solution results in a positive image made of grey quicksilver. The tonality of the original pictures varied between grey and blue-grey but, after the introduction of gold toner, they could also be gold, purple or sepia-coloured.

World’s Oldest Dog,Otto,a 20 year and 11 month old Dachshund cross Terrier has sadly been put to sleep since suffering from stomach cancer. The Shrewsbury dog was recently recognised as the oldest living dog by Guinness World Records.

He was very lively for his age and loved playing with local children. His owners Lynn and Peter Jones called him a “lovable, affectionate rogue”.

Speaking of his illness: “We found out yesterday he had a very large tumour in his stomach and last night I felt he was trying to tell us something.

“He couldn’t sit or lie down comfortably and he was trying to tell us that he’d had enough, so we made the decision to end his suffering and took him to the vet this morning,”
