Christmas World Records - Australian family set Christmas lights Guinness World Records

Christmas World Records 2013 - Australian family set Christmas lights Guinness World Records

Most Christmas lights on a residential property: Australian family breaks Guinness World Records'

An Australian family have put up 502,165 Christmas lights around their home, setting a new world record.

The Richards family, in Canberra, set the record for the most Christmas lights on a residential property, Guinness World Records confirmed.

The father, David Richards, told reporters he had started working on the display in October.

The family first held the world record in 2011, before losing the title to a family in New York.

The Richards family had put up 331,038 Christmas lights in 2011.

"I took a week off in [the] October school holidays and then have worked every weekend since," Mr Richards said.

"I have always loved Christmas. Having the Christmas lights with the community coming in and sharing it is a time when you get to know people you

probably should know better," he added.

He did not rule out doing this again in the future, but said he would need a generator to get any more electricity for his home, AP news agency reported.

The family say they will open the display to visitors in the coming weeks, to raise money for a children's charity.

Most pizzas made in one hour set world record by Domino’s Pizza branch in Australia

Most pizzas made in one hour set world record by Domino’s Pizza branch in Australia

The Domino’s Pizza store in Bundaberg, in Queensland Australia has succeeded smashing not one, but two world records after its pizza making marathon on Saturday January 21st.

The team at the Domino’s Pizza takeaway in Bundaberg shot into the Guinness Book of World Records by making 837 pizzas in just one hour on Saturday night, meaning the pizza makers turned out more than 13 pizzas every minute in order to clinch the new record.

The record breaking team of pizza makers also clinched another title, this time a new Domino’s Pizza record for the most pizzas made and sold in a week after the branch churned out a whopping 25,000 pizzas in just seven days.

The store manager of the Bundaberg branch of Domino’s Pizza, Deeana Gatti, said her team were absolutely thrilled to have set not one, but two world records. The manager of the Queensland franchise said 120 team members from across Australia and also as far afield as New Zealand came together at the store for the record breaking attempt.

While the Domino’s Pizza branch succeeded in scooping two world records over the last week, they did miss out on a third record for the “most pizzas made in 24 hours by a team” which they narrowly avoided winning. However, not ones to be defeated, Bundaberg’s Domino’s Pizza are planning to re-attempt this record later in the year.

Christmas lights world record - Largest number of Christmas lights

Christmas lights world record - Largest number of Christmas lights

The couple, from Forest Act, Australia, have 331,038 lights covering their property.

David Richards, a barrister and father of three, has been working for the past four years to bring together all the decorations.

The illuminations have helped to raise money for the charity SIDS and Kids -  an organisation Mr Richards said helped his family during tough times in 2002.

A family has shot into the Guinness Book of Records after setting a new record for the largest number of Christmas lights.

David and Janean Richards, from Australia's capital Canberra, decorated their home with an astonishing 331,038 different lights.

They are hoping to use the new-found fame of their house to raise money for charity.

In order to break the record, which is to be included in Guinness World Records for the first time following the Richards' success, they were told they would need at least 250,000 lights.

The display had to be turned on for at least 10 minutes, and filmed in a video sent off to London for verification.

Following the switch-on ceremony earlier this month, the family has now been declared the official record-holders.

The annual Christmas display has been growing ever larger since Mr Richards started it four years ago, and this year's show required hundreds of hours of work.

In the end it included more than 18 miles of lights, as well as 15,000 cable ties and a 60ft Christmas tree at its centre.

'I did it for my kids initially and then it just got bigger and bigger,' Mr Richards told the Canberra Times.

'I remember one year a mother and child came through the driveway thinking no one was around and they started dancing to the music - it's all about putting a smile on people's faces.'

The display is being used to raise money for SIDS and Kids, a charity which aims to reduce mortality among infants and new mothers.

Mr Richards, who refuses to tell anyone - including his wife - how much the lights cost, says this year is the last in which he will put up the record-breaking display.

He plans to pass on the lights to someone else who wants to fundraise for SIDS and Kids.

Bikini Parade 2011 - Largest bikini parade in Gold coast, Australia

Bikini Parade 2011 - Largest bikini parade in Gold coast, Australia

Gold coast, Australia, Oct 4 (TruthDive): More than 350 bikini babes gathered on the Glitter Strip to set a Guinness World Record for the biggest-ever bikini parade.

Three-hundred fifty-seven. That’s the number of women it took for Australia on Sunday to seize the record from the Cayman Islands for the largest bikini parade.

The women, in tiny two pieces and pink visors, paraded around Surfers Paradise beach on the Gold Coast as throngs of onlookers whooped, hollered and snapped pictures. The line stretched more than 200m and proved to be more than a little distracting for some.

Officials from the Guinness Book of World Records were there to confirm that with 357 women in the procession, a new record had been set. An electronic sign kept count as the women filed past: 329, 330, and 331.

At 332, a cheer went up as the crowd realized the parade had broken the previous record: 331 set in Grand Cayman on the Cayman Islands in June 2010. Yet, more women sauntered past.

In the end, a new record was set: 357.

The event, sponsored by the Surfers Paradise Alliance and the Gold Coast Bulletin, needed to attract 332 bodies to beat the previous record. And the tough job of checking the contestants were wearing the correct swimwear fell to Australian Guinness World Record adjudicator Chris Sheedy.

He said: ‘Today 361 girls walked through the counter but there had to be a few disqualifications because they were not wearing bikinis. ‘Unfortunately for the Cayman Islands they have had their record smashed because 357 walked through the count today.’

“It reinforces the kind of fun and attractive culture the Gold Coast is famous for,” Gold Coast Tourism chief executive Martin Winter said.

Most of people dance on it without any hiccups for three minutes at Melbourne Park in Australia.

Now, a good news for all Munni lovers.

Latest reports reveal that 'Munni Badnaam Hui', the item track from 2010's blockbuster film 'Dabangg' has entered Guinness Book Of World Records for making over 1,200 people dance on it, without any hiccups, for three minutes at Melbourne Park in Australia, during the weekend.

It all happened at the function organised by Mitu Bhowmick Lange, the director of Indian Film Festival 2011, in order to aggrandize Bollywood Down Under, dedicated to fulfillment of all entertainment needs during an event.

Expressing his excitement, Mitu Bhowmick Lange said, "It's been amazing to see such a large crowd has come together and danced with same steps on this exciting number."

Graham Barker - World's Largest Navel Lint Collection lands set Guinness World Record

World's Largest Navel Lint Collection lands Australian librarian Guinness World Record

An Australian librarian has claimed the Guinness World Record for his unprecedented collection of belly button "fluff."

That's right. Graham Barker, 45, has dedicated the past 26 years to staring into his own navel, carefully extracting 22.1 grams of multi-colored lint which he stores in clear jars.

"Some think I must have too much time on my hands, which always strikes me as an illogical thing to say about a habit which only occupies ten seconds per day," he told the Daily Mail.

Barker says he "harvests" his crop while waiting for the shower every morning.

Shockingly, he says his revolting hobby was inspired by boredom.

"I noticed the lint in my navel and became curious as to how much of it one person can produce," he said. "I decided the only way to find out was to collect it for a while and see."

Barker, who describes "The Incredible World of Navel Fluff" on his website, says his collection has landed him numerous world records and notoriety.

So far, he has sold three of his fluff jars to a museum, but won't reveal how much they went for.

Whatever he got, it was worth it.

"Collecting lint costs nothing and takes almost no time or effort so there is no compelling reason to stop," Barker told the Daily Mail, explaining his plans to continue picking fuzz out of his bellybutton as long as humanly possible.

"I wouldn't call it an addiction because it's not something I feel any need to do. If my belly stopped producing lint tomorrow I might feel surprised but not disappointed."

Barker says the pastime is not uncommon.

"When I ran a navel lint survey many years ago a handful of respondents, who were all men, confessed to having saved up some of their lint at some point. But none had continued with it," he said. "One guy might have persisted, but he got married and his wife ordered him to stop."

For those cringing at the thought of jars of belly button waste, Barker will have you know you're a small minority.

Australian Women fastest relay race in High Heels set World Record 2010

Australian Women fastest relay race in High Heels set World Record 2010.

In just over one minute and four seconds, four glamorous girls from Canberra have set a new world record for the fastest relay race in stiletto heels.

But let's face it. They were a shoe-in from the start of the race - with all of them being Australian Institute of Sport students. Organisers say the event attracted more than 100 competitors.

The leggy quartet - Brittney McGlone, Laura Juliff, Casey Hodges and Jessica Penny - smashed the competition at the Venus Embrace Closest Stiletto Race in blazing spring sunshine at Sydney's Circular Quay on Tuesday in the shadow of the Opera House.

McGlone romped home first in this event in 2008.

The Pinkettes, as they are collectively known, now plan to head to Phuket, Thailand, and use their $10,000 prize for a well-earned holiday.

McGlone, a hurdling champion, said before the race that the secret to running in heels was to get up on your toes.

"Don't tell the other girls that!" she whispered to AAP before the race. But that doesn't mean it was easy for everyone.Just ask Darren Kelly, the only bloke brave enough to have a go.

After strapping on a pair of size eight heels, with regulation 7.5cm heels, he wobbled down the 80-metre course.

"It's done for a good cause, to find a cure for cancer," he gasped to AAP afterwards.

Keeping the racers on the move was chief scrutineer and former Miss Australia Erin McNaught, whose job was to check all heels measured at least 7.5cm and that everyone's legs were smooth.

"Because they're going for a world record attempt there's certain conditions which have to be met," she told AAP.

But she turned a blind eye for Mr Kelly on the smooth legs measure.

The Pinkettes were presented with a certificate by record keeper Guinness confirming they had set the world record for the fastest stiletto relay race.

A cheque for $20,000 was presented to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, $1000 of which was raised on the day.

World's largest road race set world record - Sydney,Australia

You can't avoid a few jitters at the start. Forty, 50, 60,000 swarming around Hyde Park - stretching, stowing bags, looking for friends and hunting for the right starting group - makes it the busiest and most colourful place in Sydney on a Sunday morning.

And when there are a world record 80,000 entries, you just have to forget your race plans and take it all in. You're shoulder to naked shoulder with hundreds of runners - some dressed as superheroes, stormtroopers and bananas - helicopters are hovering overhead and thousands of spectators are massing along the route.

The gun sends the first wave surging down William Street where a band of Hare Krishnas chant support. Inside the Kings Cross tunnel, there's an encouraging burst of ''Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, oi, oi, oi''.

Four kilometres in and travelling smoothly, you check your stopwatch to discover - d'oh - it's still reading 0.00. Pressure off.

Might as well enjoy the music that is part of this great community celebration of fitness and vitality. On an awning at Double Bay, a thousand decibels of Metallica's Enter Sandman pretty much clears the brain of every thought.

Then a young woman ominously says ''it starts'' and you know exactly what she means - we've reached the infamous Heartbreak Hill.

You find a pace and grind towards the top. Halfway up, a runner wearing a gold dressing gown labelled the Italian Stallion overtakes. Rocky lives!

At Watsons Bay, you suddenly realise how disrespectful children have become. A girl who looks 10 - could even be nine - is running far, far better than you.

You remind yourself the City2Surf is 80,000 individual races with 80,000 ambitions. That's runner speak for ''time to re-evaluate what's possible''.

Weaving down through North Bondi, a glimpse of the ocean is the sign to pick up the pace but, as always, the final stretch along Campbell Parade seems like a daylong march with a backpack full of bricks.

Then you reach the finish line of one of the world's most spectacular running events. With the sun bathing the beach and happy athletes everywhere, you realise the City2Surf is all about sharing an inspiring experience in a great city. Your time is irrelevant.

Worlds Largest Coffee Mosaic of Marilyn Monroe in Australia enters Guinness World Record

Worlds Largest Coffee Mosaic of Marilyn Monroe in Australia enters Guinness World Record

A team of 12 members have made a new world record by making world's largest coffee mosaic of Marilyn Monroe in Australia.

As thousands sipped lattes at The Rocks Aroma festival, a small team tried to break the Guinness world record.

Over four hours, a team of 12 filled 5200 cups with 680 litres of milk and 780 litres of coffee to varying levels to make the world's largest coffee mosaic of the screen siren at the Overseas Passenger Terminal Forecourt.
"It was such a great feeling," the Daily Telegraph quoted Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority's head of design Michael Donohue as saying.
Marilyn Monroe photo, Marilyn Monroe picture, Worlds Largest Coffee Mosaic of Marilyn Monroe, Guinness world record 2010, Rocks Aroma festival in Australia

"It took about three to four months to plan and the reaction from the crowd was really exciting," Donohue added.
Mr Donohue said the blonde bombshell was a natural choice after their 2009 record-breaking Mona Lisa montage.

Born as Norma Jean Mortensen on June 1, 1926 in Los Angeles, California, she died of a drug overdose again in the same city, on August 5, 1962. She has become a mythical icon like Elvis since then.

Even today quite a few female stars are compared with MM to underscore their beauty. The non-blonde Italian diva Sophia Loren earned the moniker "Italian Marilyn Monroe" thanks to her Marilyn-like sex appeal.

Monroe appeared in only 31 films but left behind dozens of unforgettable scenes starting with The Asphalt Jungle (1950). Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953), There's No Business Like Show Business (1954), and Monkey Business (1952) are some of her better known works.

But probably Monroe's reached the zenith of her career with the following 3 films: The Seven Year Itch (1955) (remember the skirts-up scene over the air grill?), Some Like It Hot (1959), and The Misfits (1961).

Never nominated for any Oscars, she is still more popular today and more a part of the popular culture than many actors who have won the prestigious prize.

Did you know these trivia facts about Marilyn Monroe?
Worlds Largest Coffee Mosaic of Marilyn Monroe in Australia, Stars Marilyn Monroe picture, Marilyn Monroe photo
1. In 1947 she won the Miss California Artichoke Queen beauty pageant.
2. She was on the cover of the Playboy magazine in 1953 and a Playboy Playmate for the December 1963 issue. Playboy owner Hugh Hefner purchased the vault right next to hers in order to be buried next to the one and only Marilyn.
3. She had a global reputation as a "blonde bombshell" but her natural hair color was brunette and (a good reader) she wore prescription glasses in private.
4. In a 1999 auction, her make-up kit brought a whopping $266,500.
5. For her first film Scudda Hoo! Scudda Hay! (1948) she was paid $75 a week. For the Misfits (1961), she was paid a very respectable $250,000.

More than 115,000 people turned out for the festival.

About Marilyn Monroe - Brief Biography

A phenomenon the likes of which comes only once or twice in a century, Marilyn Monroe has without a doubt defined what it means to be a "blonde" both during her short career and since her untimely sudden demise.

Australian fisherman found 10 Feet Longest Crocodile

An Australian fisherman got the fright of his life when a three-metre (10-foot) saltwater crocodile jumped from the water and locked its jaws on his net.

Joel Pezzutti was casting for bait in a tidal drain in the northern city of Cairns when the croc leapt for his net and scrambled to within touching distance of where he was standing.
"As I was pulling my cast net in, a croc lunged out of the water, ran up the bank and latched onto my cast net," Pezzutti told the AAP newswire.

"I see a lot of crocs when I go fishing out on the boat but this made my heart skip a beat."
Pezzutti said he could have touched the reptile with an outstretched arm if he'd wanted to, adding that it was the "closest contact I've ever had with a croc".
Worried he would be accused of telling tall tales, the fisherman said he dropped his net and ran to the car for a camera and torch to get photographic evidence.

"It was still sitting there on the bank. It hadn't moved and it wasn't scared of me," he said.
An average of two people are killed each year in Australia by aggressive saltwater crocodiles, which can grow up to seven metres (23 feet) long and weigh more than a tonne.

Most number of people wearing superhero costumes set Guinness World Record - Melbourne

The Guinness World Record for the most number of people wearing superhero costumes in one location has been broken in Melbourne.

Melbourne smashed the previous record of 1091 people wearing super hero costumes in the one place held by the UK, when 1245 people gathered at Federation Square.

The CBD was no place for bad guys on Saturday with Superman, Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman, the Green Lantern and other comic book heroes portrayed hundreds of times over by people of all ages, genders, shapes and sizes.

Superman was the most popular hero, closely followed by Batman, Robin and Spider Man. The girls were out in force too, dressed as Wonder Woman, Cat Woman, Super Girl and Hawk Girl.

The managing director of Warner Bros. Consumer Products in Australia, Preston Lewis, shouted triumphantly in his American accent: "We did it, we broke the record my brother."

"To see all those people, young and old, families, babies in Fed Square was great, they were so enthusiastic,'' he said.

The youngest hero was nine-day-old Rhys Hapmton, of Sunbury. His mother, Elise Guymer, said superheroes run in her family.

"He's following in the footsteps of his two brothers who are always dressing up as Batman,'' Ms Guymer said.

"He's the Bat Baby of the family.''

The event was held to celebrated the 75th anniversary of the release of the first DC comic.

world's largest toilet queue - Australia

Around 300 Melburnians have lined up to become part of the world's largest toilet queue.

They are hoping to break a world record, along with people from around the world, to raise awareness about the lack of clean toilets and water in developing countries.

About 4,000 children die each day from preventable diseases in some parts of the world.

WaterAid Australia chief executive Adam Laidlaw says the worldwide Guinness World Record event kicked off at Federation Square this morning.

"Because of the time difference, Australia and Melbourne will be the first event," he said.

"And then we'll see events in 70 countries around the world from Sudan to Sweden, Benin to Brazil, in fact it's a kind of A to Z of events around the world to draw attention to this issue."
