Shortest film actor - 70 cms southern film actor Ajayan set Guinness World Record

Shortest film actor - 70 cms southern film actor Ajayan set Guinness World Record

Thiruvananthapuram, What if he is just 70 cms tall? Southern film actor Ajayan, who made it to the Guinness World Records in 2008, now aims at another Guinness record by becoming the shortest director of a full-length commercial film.

Ajayan, popularly known as Guinness Pakru, says he always wanted to to direct a film and it has now become a reality.

"My film has been titled as 'Kuttiyum Kolum' and it would go on the floors starting October. We expect to do the post production in November, and it would hit the theatres in the end of December," Ajayan told reporters here Friday.

In 2008, Ajayan featured in the film "Albudhadweep", directed by Vinayan. It had a cast of 360 dwarfs, and helped Ajayan earn a Guinness record for being the shortest hero doing an adult role in a commercial film.

His directorial project "Kuttiyum Kolum" is set around a popular old game of the same name. The game was played in rural Kerala and it is played as a team using a stick (Kolu), which is around two feet long and another small stick, which is around 12 cms long.

The game started to lose popularity after incidents of damage to the players' eyes became common.

"The film revolves around the friendship of two friends and the film opens with a game of 'Kuttiyum Kolum'. In the film my character's name is Kutti and we are scouting for an actor to play the role of Kolu," added Ajayan.

The film is being produced by United Films-Pavithran Group headed by Anzar, and would be shot in and around Kollencode in Palakkad district. The entire cast of the film will be announced Sep 5.

Ajayan has completed his silver jubilee in the film industry and acted in 60 films, include those in Tamil and Kannada.

Mithun Chakraborty’s Dance show enters Limca Book Of Records.

Two weeks before he returns with the third season of Dance India Dance on Zee TV, actor-judge Mithun Chakraborty is on cloud nine. The original Bengali show, Dance Bangla Dance that is also judged by him, has entered the Limca Book Of Records for running 126 new episodes with the same contestants and judges for an entire calendar year.

Next, the show’s broadcaster, Zee Bangla, is eyeing the Guinness Book Of World Records for the feat.

“When we started that show, I didn’t know where it would lead us because it was an experiment. It was a new format that Zee had developed. We were trying to find genuine dancing talent in West Bengal. And look where it has reached today. It’s not only one of the most-watched shows there, but is also considered to be a huge platform for dancers,” beams Mithun, who will be back as the Kya Baat grandmaster on the Zee TV dance show next weekend.

“I’m sure, there aren’t many shows in the world that go on for that long in a year, without a break and with the same faces. The ratings also didn’t dip.”

The National Award-winner has also taken over from former Indian skipper, Sourav Ganguly, on the highly watched Bengali chat show, Dadagiri.

He has already completed a bunch of episodes and has taken over from the previous host, on the popularity charts too.

“I didn’t take on the show thinking of that,” he says, adding, “I was offered the show after Sourav left because of reasons best known to him and the channel. I’ve always enjoyed working with the network because I like the way they function. There’s no way one can complain about anything. And I had the dates they wanted, it worked out smoothly.”

This month,  officials form Guinness Book plan to meet Trupti to verify her claims.

Elated over the bumper opening of her film, Trupti, who's made an amazing on screen transformation, said: "This is the first time a woman has done a complete body make-up.

In the past, for films like Chachi 420 or Paa, the makeup was restricted to the upper body and mainly the face. But in Agadbamb I have used entire body make-up to play a fat woman."

Inspired from Eddie Murphy's film, Norbit, where he plays an overweight woman, Bhoir decided to use Indian make-up artists, for the project.

"We always turn to Hollywood for help, but ignore the immense potential in our own country. I have worked with local artists and technicians for my film.

Anil Pengrikar has worked with me on the body make-up. It took eight to nine hours to get under the body suit which weighed around 250 kg.

I acted and danced in the suit. Physically, it was the biggest challenge. We'd start make-up around 3 am and finish by 11 in the morning," she said.

Talking about the prosthetics used, Bhoir said: "I didn't want to do a shoddy job by taking a short-cut. We used liquid rubber, cement, foam and plaster of paris to cover my entire body.

The challenge was to make sure that joints like elbows and knees don't remain exposed. The suit had to cover my entire body."

Happy that the public has loved her in the role of an obese woman, Bhoir said: "My film has made Rs 45 lakhs in just the first three days of release. Even in the second week, shows are going housefull. I couldn't be more thankful."

Lata Mangeshkar turns 81 - Guinness Record Holder most number of Song recordings in the world

Bollywood playback legend Lata Mangeshkar turns 81 Tuesday, with fans swearing by her golden voice even as she has chosen to cut down on assignments after singing for over 1,000 Hindi movies.

Starting her career in 1942, she reigned over the film industry for decades and is still the first preference of many filmmakers like Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Madhur Bhandarkar and an inspiration to established singers of today.
Lata Mangeshkar photo, Lata Mangeshkar picture, Lata Mangeshkar Guinness World Record 2011, Lata Mangeshkar 81 birthday, most number of Song recordings in the worldLata, who was born Sep 28, 1929, also featured in the Guinness World Records book from 1974 to 1991 for having made the most number of Song recordings in the world. She was last heard in Bhandarkar’s ‘Jail’.

‘Lataji’s birthday is a great event. She has given us so much in terms of music, love and affection. I just hope that she lives on forever and gives her blessings to us. I am very close to her and I am happy, proud and fortunate that she is close to me,’ said filmmaker Yash Chopra who has vowed only to work with her among the female singers in the industry.

‘Jab bhi ji chahe’ (Daag); ‘Kabhi kabhie mere dil mein’ (‘Kabhi Kabhie’); ‘Neela asman so gaya’ (‘Silsila’); Meri bindiya teri nindiya (‘Lamhe’); ‘Dholna’ (‘Dil To Pagal Hai’) and ‘Tere Liye’ (‘Veer Zaara’) are some of Lata’s hit numbers for Chopra.

Bhansali is in fact composing an album as a tribute to her.

‘I know every nuance in her voice. She is a miracle of nature. And there’s so much in her throat that is still untapped. I first thought I’d create just one song for her in ‘Guzaarish’. Then I thought, why one song when a whole ethos, era after era of supreme excellence is embodied in that voice?’ Bhansali told IANS.

‘Lataji is far more than a singer. She mirrors all the beauty of the soul. It is that beauty that I want to capture in my songs,’ he added.

Not just this, Bhansali’s forthcoming film ‘Guzaarish’ is also inspired by one of Lata’s imperishable melodies, ‘Hai tere saath meri wafaa mein nahin to kya’, composed by Madan Mohan and written by Kaifi Azmi for the film ‘Hindustan Ki Kasam’.

Starting her career in 1942 with songs in Marathi, Lata’s first Hindi song was ‘Paa lagoon kar jori’ for Vasant Joglekar’s movie ‘Aap Ki Seva Mein’ in 1946. Two years later, composer Ghulam Haider gave Lata her first major break with the song ‘Dil mera toda’ in ‘Majboor’ and after that there was no looking back for the nightingale of India, as she is fondly called.

She has worked with all the major composers of the bygone era and mesmerised the current lot too.

Lata has recorded songs for over 1,000 Bollywood movies and sung in more than 36 regional Indian languages. She is the second vocalist ever to have received the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour.

Lilting melodies like ‘Aayega aanewala’ from ‘Mahal’, ‘Aaja re pardesi’ from ‘Madhumati’, ‘Pyar kiya to darna kya’ from ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ and ‘Satyam shivam sundaram’ from the film of the same name still find a place on the favourite list of music lovers.

She has sung all kinds of songs in her long career, including romantic numbers like ‘Tumhen yaad karte karte’, ‘Ajeeb daastan hai yeh’, and naughty ones like ‘Main kamsin hoon’, ‘Bahon mein chale aao’, ‘Bangle ke peeche’ and ‘Choti si umar main’ as well as devotional songs like ‘Paoji maine Ram ratan dhan pao’ and ‘O palan hare’.

Even singers are still in awe of the great singer who is also the elder sister of singer Asha Bhosle.

‘I can’t express in words what she means to me and how I feel for her. Just want to wish her a happy and healthy life ahead,’ Sunidhi Chauhan told IANS.

Playback singer Sonu Niigaam added: ‘I want to wish a very happy birthday to Lataji. Many many best wishes to her. I would just like to tell her that keep enlightening India and world with your songs and bless me.’
