Singing legend Asha Bhosle entered the Guinness World Records Thursday for the most single studio recordings. The 78-year-old has reportedly recorded up to 11,000 solos, duets and chorus-backed songs in over 20 Indian languages since 1947.

Mehbooba Mehbooba (Sholay), Piya Tu Ab To Aaja (Caravan) and Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko (Yaadon Ki Baraat) to her credit, was conferred with the Guinness honour at the Asian awards function held in London, a statement said.

The singer is elated with the record. "Aaj sahi mayne mein mujhe aisa lag raha hai ki mein world ki recognised singer hogayi hu. Mujhe ye pata tha key sabse zyada mere recorded songs hai phir bhi main aaj tak chup rahi (Today, I truly feel I am a world recognised singer. I always knew I have the maximum number of songs to my credit, still I never said anything all this while," Asha said

She thanked music researcher Vishwas Nerurkar for helping her get the Guinness title.

"Vishwas Nerurkar ne mere sab gaano ka pata karke Guinness World Records ko correct information diya aur aaj yeh samaan mujhe mila hai (Vishwas Nerurkar found out about all my songs and gave the correct information to Guinness World Records, because of which I got this title)," she added.

Asha also had a message for her fans.

"Mein apne chahanewalo ko kehna chahungi ke aapka pyar mere liye issi tarha se barkarar rahein aur jis tarha aapne mere gaano ko pyaar kiya hai usi tarhan meri acting (Hindi film Maaee) ko bi aapka pyar aur ashirwad miley (To all those who love me, I would like to say that I hope your love for me remains the way it has always been and just the way you have loved my songs, you will love my Hindi film Maaee too)," she said.

Asha will make her big screen acting debut with Maaee, which is complete and ready for release.

Directed by Mahesh Kodiyal, the film is co-produced by Subhash Dawar of Alliance Entertainment and Nitin Shankar of Rythm D'vine Entertainment Pvt. Ltd.

Kite flying Limca Book of World Record by Hotel Patang - Ahmedabad

Hotel Nilkanth Patang is eyeing a world record of flying 1,000 electronic tukkals on one kite on January 14 - the day of Uttarayan. The event of flying the kite will take place from the terrace of Hotel Nilkanth Patang, which is as high as 225 feet from the ground level.

At present Japan holds the world record of flying the most, 800 electronic tukkals, on a kite. Last year, Hotel Nilkanth Patang attempted the same but had to be satisfied with 572 tukkals on one kite, which is also a record in India and the second best in the world. Earlier, someone in Assam tried to set such world record but that was on a small scale with around 50 tukkals, said Saurabh Choksi, advisor to Dharmadeve Infrastructure Ltd.

The kite is 10x15 feet in size, weighs 4 kg and is made of synthetic cloth. The company has imported 1000 tukkals from China. "The company wanted to set a world record and since our hotel is named Patang and as the festival belongs to Gujarat, it was decided to create a world record in Gujarat," said Umang Thakkar, CMD of Neelkanth Group of Hotels and Dharmadev Infrastructure Ltd.

The representatives of Limca Book of Records India-Asia Book of Records will remain present on January 14, while details will be sent to Guinness Book of World Records.

IIM Student Ahmedabad set Microsoft's Toppling Domino Limca Book of Record 2011

This year has been full of surprises when it comes to the golden jubilee celebrations of IIMA. First was the rock show and adding a feather to their cap, is an attempt by their students to enter the Limca Book of Records.

The students are planning a domino show at the historic RJ Mathai auditorium by toppling over 10,000 dominoes to unveil a design inspired by their golden jubilee logo.

Secretary of IIM's media cell, Glen D'Silva said: "The current India record as per the authorities at Limca is 7000 dominoes by Microsoft India at the launch of Windows 7. Our aim is to make a figure using 10,000 dominos and reach a figure of at least 12,000. A team of about 20 students has been working through the nights for the past 10 days to practice for this event."

According to D'silva, the challenge is to keep the domino as stable as possible as even if one of them gets the slightest touch of finger or hand, the entire things will topple off. It has to be set up with a particular precision."

Says Abhinav Jain, general secretary of the students' council: "We are trying to convey to the world outside IIMA that our students are not merely restricted to studies but they also move, think and create."

The entire setup will take at least five hours and they will kick start the show at around 3am, although the event will take a mere three to four minutes. Students have placed an order for nearly 16,000 pieces of dominos from the old city, which are made of compressed sawdust - quite different from the regular wooden ones."

Anirban Das, a PGP1 student said, "I was in the team of Microsoft which holds the current record and I hope to break the record with the IIMA team this year". The domino show will kick-off at 10.30 am at the RJM auditorium on December 11.

Somdev Devvarman wins maiden Tennis Gold medal - Commonwealth Games 2010

Somdev Devvarman of India became the first Commonwealth Games men's singles champion on Sunday cruising to a 6-4, 6-2 win over Greg Jones of Australia.

The top seed's win had local fans on their feet, 24 hours after the despair of seeing Indian glamour girl Sania Mirza lose the women's singles final in a deciding tie-break to Anastasia Rodionova of Australia.

"A gold medal is tough to come by. I'm happy I got mine. I've worked really hard. Right now, I'm really happy," Devvarman said

"I'm not going to lie, I got a little nervous. It's one of the best feelings for sure. It's a great honour to play for my country."

Devvarman, who has broken into the ATP top 100 this year after a successful US college career, had yet to drop a set all week, but he found fifth seed Jones a handful to start with.

But after pocketing the first set with a single break, he took total command of the second, running off five games games in a row with two breaks of serve to lead 5-0.

He briefly stumbled at match point on his following serve allowing Jones a brief respite, but two games later he completed the rout sparking off noisy celebrations in the stadium.

Jones said he had not been too bothered by a slight leg muscle strain he received at the start of the second half but that the big crowd had unnerved him at times.

"The crowd was a little intimidating. I don't think I was comfortable out there," he said.

Tennis was included in the Games for the first time at New Delhi.

World's tallest residential building(tower) - Lodha Developers Mumbai,India

MUMBAI: Real estate firm Lodha Developers will invest Rs 2,000 crore to develop the world’s tallest residential tower in Mumbai to cash in on the continued surge in home prices in India’s commercial capital.

“We will fund the project through internal accruals and pre-launch sales,” MD Abhishek Lodha told a press conference. “We are also looking at some private equity investments for the project.”

Although he declined to disclose details of the PE investments, sources said Lodha has initiated discussions with leading Singapore funds GIC and Temasek, and a property fund of mortgage giant HDFC to raise over Rs 1,000 crore.

Lodha Developers will start bookings by the end of this month and expects to complete the project by 2014. “We expect to roll out 300 residential apartments and notch sales of about Rs 5,000 crore from the project,” said Mr Lodha.

Once complete, the 117-storey tower will be close to half-a-km tall, dwarfing the present tallest residential tower, Queensland Number One, in Australia that has a height of 323 meter. Christened as World One, the tower will be higher than some of the iconic global landmarks including Sears Tower in Chicago, Jin Mao Building in Shanghai and The Empire State Building in New Work.

“It is not about the tallest tower, but we are looking at providing our customers a great experience to live in,” said Mr Lodha.

The tower will come up on the 17-acre plot of the defunct Shrinivas Mill in Lower Parel, central Mumbai, which the Lodhas bought nearly five-years ago. It will house three and four BHKs, lavish villas with private pools and some super-luxurious duplex flats.

It will have over 5 acres of landscape area, including an 80,000 square feet sports club at a height of 175 feet above ground. It will also have an observatory at a height of 1,000 ft. Flats will carry a minimum price tag of Rs 7.5 crore.

The company has hired the services of New York-based architects Pei Cobb Freed and Partners, which has completed nearly 200 architectural marvels across the globe, including Louvre Pyramid in Paris, Bank of China Tower in Hong Kong and John Hancock Tower in Boston.

“We can assure you that the building will have all the necessary safety measures in case of an emergency,” Jay Berman, partner at Pei Cobb and Freed told ET.

The company, which deferred its initial share sale last year, will launch an IPO once the market is stable, said Mr Lodha. Lodha can now ask for higher valuations due to its ownership on two iconic buildings, said owner of a real estate company who did not wish to be named.

Last month, the company bagged a 22.5-acre property in Mumbai after bidding Rs 4,050 crore in the country’s biggest land deal.

Non-stop music playing instrument harmonica set World Record - Shailesh Sethiya

BANGALORE: It was non-stop music for 30 hours by Shailesh Kumar Sethiya in Ambedkar Bhavan on Sunday. The harmonica player claims to have broken the Guinness World Record for playing the instrument for the longest period. Shailesh started playing harmonica on May 1 from 11.40 am and went on till Sunday evening.

Shailesh’s music included — Jai Ho, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Dreams and much more. Currently, a Swiss citizen holds the Guinness World Record for playing harmonica for 24 hours. The event’s video will now be sent to the Guinness Book of World Records. The 30-year-old harmonica player also made it to the Limca Book of Records recently.

According to the Guinness Book rule, Shailesh took 20 minutes break after performing for four hours. “It is not about fame. It is about promoting the art,” he said.

Largest Blood donation set Guinness World Record - Shiv Sena

Mumbai: The Shiv Sena’s quest for a Guinness record has landed its lower rung leaders in a bloody mess. They have to find blood, lots of it, to remain in the good books of the party leadership.

The Sena’s diktat is clear. It wants to collect 25,000 bottles of blood on the occasion of the golden jubilee of Maharashtra and walk into the Guinness Book of World Records.

The previous record was set by Dera Sacha Sauda of Sri Ganga Nagar in Punjab, which collected blood from 17,921 donors in 2004.

Under the party’s plan, each of its 227 unit chiefs needs to bring at least 200 donors from their respective areas to achieve the target. Blood would be collected at a camp in Goregaon on April 25. A brainchild of the party’s executive president Uddhav Thackeray, the camp is aimed at building connect with people in constructive ways.

The grand idea has left the unit chiefs at their wit’s end. They may lose their posts if they fail to muster people for the camp. “I can easily bring 200 people for a rally at Shivaji Park, but it is much more difficult to gather that many people to donate blood,” a unit chief said.

To make their task more difficult, they already collected blood in their areas on January 23, party chief Bal Thackeray’s 83rd birthday.

“Normally, a donor can donate blood once in three months. The unit chiefs will have to run from pillar to post to gather 200 new people,” he added.

The performance of unit chiefs has been under the party’s scanner after it launched a drive to reshuffle the organisation a few months ago. “I fear party seniors will use the camp as an opportunity to clip our wings,” another unit chief said. They have started poster campaigns in their areas to find donors.

A city-based chef has entered into the Guinness Book of World Records for doing the longest barbeque cooking of Indian dishes.

For achieving the feat, Jacob cooked around 485 dishes in a span of 24 hours since Sunday morning, Guinness World Records Adjudications Department Head Lucia Sinigaleisi told reporters.

Jacob said his passion  to make different dishes made him to achieve the feat.Right from my childhood I wanted to make various dishes and that passion made me to do this feat, 34-year-old Jacob, a gold medallist in catering technology and working as freelance consultant to five city-based star rated hotels said.

I came to know that such an achievement was not made in this sector. I sought Guinness World Records team to get their approval in December and when I started cooking yesterday, they were monitoring, he said.

Of the total 485 dishes he cooked, around 150 were non-vegetarian dishes.

Jacob said his next move was to break his own record.I want to break my own record. If someone breaks it, then I will try to create a new record,he said.

State Information Minister Parithi Illamvazhuthi presented the Guinness Certificate to Jacob.

The dishes made were distributed to various orphanages and old age homes.
