Mohammed Khurshid Hussain sets world record for typing with his Nose

Mohammed Khurshid Hussain sets world record for typing with his Nose

He came, he saw, he conk-ered: Man sets new world record for typing with his NOSE

Mohammed Khurshid Hussain, 23, from India, practiced for six hours a day
He already holds a record for typing the English alphabet in 3.43 seconds
The stunt took months of practice and dozens of failed attempts

A world champion typist has set a new speed record - with his nose.

Mohammed Khurshid Hussain, 23, wrote a 103-character sentence in just 47 seconds after practicing his technique for six hours a day, the International Business Times reported.

If confirmed it will smash the previous time of a minute and 33 seconds, set in Dubai in 2008 by an Indian man who used his nose to write the same sentence: 'Guinness World Records has challenged me to to type this sentence using my nose in the fastest time.'

It took Mr Hussain, from the southern city of Hyderabad, months of training to break through the 53-second barrier after reaching it at least twice.

During his attempts the hobbyist, his hands tied behind his back, was surrounded by crowds of fans with stopwatches and an extra-large monitor attached to the keyboard.

Last year American Mark Encarnación typed on a smartphone 'The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human' in 25.9 seconds - while blindfolded.

There is also a recorded time for typing the numbers 1 to 50 with a full stop between each one.

Hind Al Mulla, from the United Arab Emirates, managed the feat in 16.3 seconds at an event in Dubai in 2009.

Grace Pak typed a 264-character text on a mobile phone with a keyboard in 56.57 seconds in Pennsylvania, U.S., in 2011, setting another record.

Largest floral arrangement (Pookalam) in the world set world record by Vivel

ITC’s personal care brand, Vivel, creates a world record (as ratified by Limca Book of Records) by making the largest floral arrangement (Pookalam) in the world. The world record event took place at the Ambedkar Stadium in Kochi and was attended by a huge crowd.
Within minutes.

The participants were awarded a ‘World Record Certificate’ by Inspector General of Police Ernakulam Range, K. Padmakumar, and Sheik Pareeth, District Collector, Kochi.

Members of the record breaking team excitedly said, “We all are extremely charged up after creating a record with our Pookalam. We would like to thank Vivel for giving us the opportunity to showcase our art and make our families proud.”

World’s Largest Mural 2012 - Largest Mural in the Gloria Hotel, Dubai

World’s Largest Mural 2012 - Largest Mural in the Gloria Hotel, Dubai

Dubai, 28th April 2012 (WAM) - Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, opened today the largest mural in the world, done by the Lebanese artist Souheil Madi, in Gloria Hotel Dubai. Dr. Ghaith Bin Hamel Al Ghaith, Vice Chairman of Al Ghaith Holding and the number of the governing body of Gloria Hotel and a group of dignitaries and a number of media personalities, attended the opening ceremony.

The artist, Souheil Madi, mentioned that his mural "Caravan of Women" is the largest of its kind in the world, and will be recorded in the Guinness Book of Records. "I drew the painting on the roof of the eighth floor in Gloria Hotel, which consists of 41 floors. The painting can be seen from high altitudes and helicopters", Madi said: "It is a giant flat 3D painting that lies on a space of approximately 1700 meter square".

According to the artist, the "Caravan of Women" represents the Camel caravans that used to pass through the Arabian Peninsula desert with women on board. The goal behind this painting is to honor mother, wife, daughter, and sister.

"Finishing this painting took nearly 100 hours of work, which is an accomplishment of record to paint a mural the size of football field. I drew the painting using a small paint brush with the help of only one associate artist selected from my students" Madi added.

Madi pointed out to the size of the board and the short time it was completed to qualify for registration in the Guinness Book of World Records, said that the largest flat-panel registered in the encyclopedia did not reach this standard.

From his perspective, Dr. Ghaith Al Ghaith, pointed out that the hotel residents enjoy seeing this giant work of art, which reflects the cultures and history of the United Arab Emirates. It also shows how much the country cares for the arts and the artists, as the painting is now the newest tourist landmark in Dubai.

Dr. Al Ghaith mentioned the efforts spent by the hotel to supply all needed items to finish this painting as a personal move for supporting the artistic movement, and to add a new landmark for tourists.

Highest number of tattoos on his body set world record by Delhi man

Highest number of tattoos on his body set world record by Delhi man

Guinness Rishi, 70, from Delhi, is covered in the flags of 305 different countries, 185 country maps, 165 mini flags and 2,985 characters.

His wife, Bimla, finally persuaded him to stop after convincing Guinness that no one else would want to break his world record - which officially stands at his 2009 total of 220 flag tattoos.

'I've beaten my own record and will invite the adjudicators to come update their books, so that my new total is recognised through the years,' said Guinness, who changed his name from Har Prakash when he set out to break as many world records as possible five years ago.

His 22 records include such singular feats as making the longest will in the world - a whopping 489 pages, delivering a pizza from New Delhi to San Francisco, and, of course, carrying the highest number of tattoos on his body.

Rishi's other records include 'taking on the world's oldest adoptee', after he legally took custody of his 61-year-old brother-in-law, and building the tallest sugar cube tower in the world, which stood at 64 inches.

Incredibly, the committed record-breaker also had all his teeth extracted so he could fill his mouth with 750 straws.

To win support for his bid to preserve his body on public display Guinness even has a tattoo on his forehead bearing the legend, Ripley's Believe It Or Not.

And it seems his days of getting inked may not be completely over - Guinness simply confirms he has enough flags on his body.

His commitment to breaking records means he might find it hard to resist having the most tattoo artists working on him at the same time.

'The record is held by an American who in 1996 had 22 artists work on him,' he says. 'As a matter of fact, I did break the record in Pattaya last year when 25 artists etched 55 flags on me. But I was not familiar with the rules and forgot to make a video recording.'

While his forehead, head, arms, legs and chest are covered with tattoos, his back remains pristine clear.

'I am saving that for a dream project,' said Guinness. 'It's going to be the hall of fame for world record holding tattoo artists. I will have all their names and achievements tattooed on my back.'

"People call me a joker, a madman. It doesn't bother me. My dream is to go around the world several times. I want the children of those countries to ask me, where the flag of their country is, spot it and then, in the process, become aware of my country and other countries as well," said Rishi.

"In fact, I am donating my body to the Ripley's Believe It Or Not museum, so that they preserve it and put in on display," he revealed.

Guinness's wife Bimla is so angered by her husband's attention-seeking that she refuses to go to the market or be seen in public with him.

3D StreetMural - London artists 3D Joe and Max to create world’s largest 3D painting

3D Street Mural photo - London artists 3D Joe and Max to create world’s largest 3D painting

The largest mural ever was completed Thursday, as part of the seventh annual Guinness World Records Day. British artists '3D Joe & Max,' with their incredible 3D street mural that measures a whopping 9,601 square feet, joined over 300,000 other people as they all attempted to break various records around the world.

On Guinness World Records Day, November 17 2011, Reebok and CrossFit took fitness to another dimension in Canary Wharf. On their mission to empower people around the globe to be fit for life, both companies collaborated with London artists “3D Joe and Max” to officially create the world’s largest 3D painting.

With 1 160.4m² and a length of 106.5 metres, London-based artist Joe Hill and his team achieved this incredible feat and smashed the previous record of 892.15 m² held by Chinese artist Qi Xinghua.

The unique painting, technically referred to as anamorphic street art, shows dangerous drops and cliff edges and will be on public display until Saturday, November 19th. It encourages pedestrians, who pass by to work out and try functional CrossFot movements. This includes pull-ups and kettle bell swings, while they seem to be hanging above a cliff or standing on the edge of an escarpment.

Reebok and CrossFit announced their partnership earlier this year and aim to change the way people around the world perceive, define and experience fitness. “Everyone knows that fitness is important, but it’s not something that people do because they want to do it,” said Chris Froio, Reebok’s Global Head of Fitness, “Our partnership with CrossFit is not just about creating cutting-edge fitness footwear and apparel, or sponsoring fitness competitions – we have partnered with CrossFit because it is an extremely effective fitness programme and a unique fitness experience that creates a fun, social community. The combination of delivering results while keeping people coming back for more is a life-changing fitness experience that you can’t put a price on”.

Laura Hadland - World's Largest Toast Mosaic Portrait Guinness World Record 2011

Laura Hadland - World's Largest Toast Mosaic Portrait Guinness World Record 2011.

For any wife, trying to get on the right side of the mother-in-law can be a tricky and sometimes fruitless endeavour - especially if it involves trying to impress her with your cooking skills.

Laura Hadland, however, seems to have found a sure way of doing just that by creating this huge mosaic portrait of her mother-in-law - using 600 loaves of bread.

The 27-year-old museum curator roped in 40 friends to help her make the tribute, which she describes as 'a treat made with love and a sense of randomness'.

They used a battery of nine toasters to brown 9,852 slices of bread to varying degrees before arranging it to make the 32ft 8in by 42ft 3in picture.

After spending six hours painstakingly perfecting the image, Laura surprised her husband Mike's mother, Sandra Whitfield, with the unusual portrait to celebrate her 50th birthday.

The enormous picture, created in Sandra's home town of Warrington, Cheshire, was confirmed yesterday as having set a new Guinness World Record as the largest toast mosaic.

Laura said: 'It's great to have broken the record - what an awesome day. I'm thrilled my best mates come together to make our mark on history and celebrate Sandra's birthday at the same time - it's a birthday card like no other.

'As a museum curator, I spend lots of time with Roman mosaics so it was great fun to make a modern one out of my favourite food - everyone loves toast.

'It's a treat for Sandra made with much love and a sense of randomness. She's certainly not a stereotypical mother in law, she's one of my best friends and I love her.'

Mrs Whitfield, a divorced mother of two, cried with joy when she saw the unusual birthday gift. She said: 'It was certainly a massive shock. I love toast but it feels very strange seeing my face made out of it.

'I'm really overwhelmed because they have gone to so much effort. Laura really is the best daughter in law you could wish for. It's been the best birthday present ever and I'm now a world record holder.'

The toast mosaic - 128 square metres of browned and scorched bread - was officially named the world's largest at 5pm on October 17 at Warrington's Parr Hall by Guinness World Records adjudicator Claire Burgess. The previous record holder measured 121.93 square metres and was created by staff and students at a school in Eindhoven, Netherlands, in February.

Laura used Facebook to recruit volunteers for the record attempt, which was part of a social networking project - the Wildfire Experience - sponsored by mobile device manufacturer HTC. Emily Edmondson, eight, who took part along with her mother and grandmother, was one of the youngest mosaic makers.

Sivaraman's famous painting Pieta set Guinness World Record 2011

Artist Sivaraman's work brings together the famous painting and the New Testament

Michelangelo's masterpiece Pieta, which shows a crucified Christ cradled in his mother's lap, has tugged at people's heartstrings for centuries.

                                      Sivaraman's famous painting Pieta picture

And, artist R. Sivaraman from Nagercoil has paid a fitting tribute to this famous Renaissance painting — he has reproduced Pieta within a 5 x 3-foot frame, and written in miniscule letters the entire New Testament and a few selections from the Old Testament over the sketch and the empty spaces around it.

On the verge of completion, the work is likely to get into the Guinness World Records book.

Running words defining the cuts and contours of images is a special feature of this work, bordered by sketched scenes from Christ's life. Nothing but lead pencils have been used for all the sketching and writing.

Well protected

Despite this, Sivaraman's work is insulated against damage.

“A chemical applied over the finished work preserves it,” says 24-year-old Sivaraman, a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Government College of Fine Arts.

“When I joined the college, I wanted to do something extraordinary,” says Sivaraman. And, that is how he started inscribing popular writings with images of those who authored them.

His other ‘book-sketching' attempts include writing the Tamil version of the New Testament within a reproduced Pieta (an effort mentioned in the Limca Book of World Records), and former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam's autobiography within his image.

Inscribing a whole book in miniscule letters within an image set in a small frame takes its toll, especially on his knees.

However, Sivaraman puts in nine hours daily for this work — he believes the toil is well worth it.

World's largest street painting festival - Pasadena Chalk Festival 2010

PASADENA - The 18th annual Pasadena Chalk Festival over the weekend was not only the biggest in Pasadena history, but it was also declared the world's largest street-painting festival, officials said.

The two-day celebration attracted more than 100,000 visitors to the Paseo Colorado shopping center, 280 E. Colorado Blvd., organizers said.

It was hosted by the Paseo Colorado and nonprofit art advocacy group the Light Bringer Project.

About 600 artists of all ages and skills created more than 180 murals in and around the grounds of the Paseo Colorado.

Officials from the Guinness Book of World Records determined the event to be the largest street-painting festival on record, Light Bringer Project President

Tom Coston said.

"We think of it as a museum without walls," he said.
Pasadena Chalk Festival, Guinness World Records, largest street painting picture, image, video, photo
The event has continued getting larger through the years, Coston said. It's become so large that it's become an anticipated event in Pasadena among both artists and art lovers.

"This is the largest crowd in the history of the event," Coston said. "Really, it has a life of its own. I can't see it ever going away."

The artwork covered a space equivalent to about two city blocks.

Visitors not only get to see the finished works, but also are invited to watch the artists create their pieces during the event.

"(Visitors) start getting engaged with the artists," Coston said.

Many artists have formed friendships, partnerships and even marriages through the Pasadena Chalk Festival, he added, and there's a strong spirit of cooperation among the artists. Thirty percent have been participating in the festival for seven years or more.

Murals included portraits, fanciful and abstract creations, cartoons and everything in between. Some were made just for fun, while others carried political or social statements.

Fifteen students in grades six through eight from the Foshay Learning Center's "Room

13" art program in Los Angeles created two murals for the event titled "The Color of Art Defeats Darkness" and "The Heart of Love."

Sisters Rosemary Donis, 14, and Jennifer Donis, 13, worked on Room 13's murals for the second year.
                                     Pasadena Chalk Festival photo

"It's very inspirational seeing all the other artists," Rosemary said.

"The fun thing about this is getting your hands dirty," she added. "It makes you feel like a real artist."

Jennifer enjoyed participating because, "You can do whatever you want - be creative."

Artist Ron Lewis, 39, of Los Angeles, also known as "Rezin," created a summer fun-themed work titled, "The Water Fight," in which a pair of mischievous-looking boys are depicted playing with water guns and balloons in front of a tire swing hanging from a tree.

"This is my first chalk art," said Lewis, who has worked mainly as a graffiti artist.

"I thought about something that would be fun," he said of the inspiration behind the piece. "That's basically what I wanted to capture: kids having fun in the summer."

Jim and Stacy Rispin of Pasadena brought their children Ian, 8, and Emma, 3, to the event "just to see all the amazing things people can do with chalk," Stacy said.

The family also attended Pasadena's annual music festival Saturday.

"I love living here, where all this stuff is in our backyard," Stacy said.

In addition to the Paseo Colorado and Light Bringer Project, a host of other sponsors helped make the event possible, Coston said. For example, Blick Art Materials in Pasadena provided three boxes of chalk to each artist.

Though the festival's murals easily surpassed the 151 required for the world record, Coston said, it will take several weeks for the proper documentation to be filed and the record to become official.

World's most expensive painting - Picasso painting sets art auction World record 2010

World's most expensive painting set world record for art auction sales - Picasso painting.

A 1932 painting by Pablo Picasso sold on Tuesday night in New York for 106.5 million dollars, a new world record auction price for a work of art, Christie’s announced.

The painting, Nu au Plateau de Sculpteur (Nude, Green Leaves and Bust), has Marie—Therese Walter, the artist’s mistress in reclining and also in a bust. Picasso included his own profile in the blue background.

The auction price topped the record set in February of 104.3 million dollars for a Giacometti sculpture. That work, titled Walking Man I, sold in London at Sotheby’s auction house.

More than half a dozen people bid on the 1932 canvas, which the Brodys acquired in the 1950s from Picasso's dealers, with the winning bid taken by a Christie's executive via telephone. The final price of $106,482,500 included the auction's house's commission.

"Nude, Green Leaves and Bust" has been publicly exhibited only once since 1951, the last time it changed hands. The year it was painted, 1932, is considered a turning point for the artist; it was then that he began creating luscious canvases featuring Walter that were unlike anything he had done before.

More paintings from the Brody estate, including works by Matisse, Braque and Giacometti, will be sold by Christie's in the coming weeks.

World's most expensive carpet set world record - Persian carpet

LONDON, UK -- A Kirman 'Vase' carpet, a rare 17th Century Persian carpet, fetched $9,599,535 (£6,201,250) at Christie's in London (20 times more than expected)  - setting the new world record for the Most expensive carpet.

An anonymous overseas bidder bought the Most expensive carpet in the world to rapturous applause in the saleroom.

Speaking after the record breaking sale, William Robinson, Director of the Rugs and Carpets at Christie's, said: 'This example has huge charm, subtlety and balance, which combine in a design of deceptive simplicity.'

A spokesman added that the quality of the rug was a reflection of the great talent of the weavers of the Iranian city of Kirman, who were 'arguably the most inventive and influential of all carpet designers'.

An Indian doormat maker claims to have the best way to stop dirt getting in the house in the current bad weather - after inventing the world's longest doormat measuring more than 330 feet.

The mat made by the company Travancore Cocotuft Ltd is just over 1.2 metres (4ft) wide, 101.6 metres (333.3ft) long and weighs 999 kg.

Company spokesman Alfred Michel said: "Guinness World Records have asked us for the basic information and we are in the process of preparing that and once they are convinced, they will visit us to see the doormat."

The mat made of 470,000 tufts of coir hair taken from the outside of coconuts took six months to make.

The thought of manufacturing the world's longest mat, according to Mahadevan, was inspired by a project initiated by SIDBI in Alappuzha, for the growth of the coir industry in the state.

The coir industry in Kerala has a history that spans over a century and employs in excess of 1.5 lakh weavers and spinners numbering four lakhs in the state.

Lack of modernisation in the industry and a stiff rise in wages of workers have resulted in only 50 percent of coconut husks being used in the coir industry, while the rest is being used as fuel in rural areas.

This sale, in particular, featured works of greater quality, and we presented them more effectively in our redesigned catalogue format. Clearly these changes are beginning to bear fruit." Continued Starr, "We're very pleased with the strength of Skinner's first sale of 2010. We're finding renewed interest in contemporary works and that's good news for the art market overall."

Skinner's next auction of American & European Paintings & Prints will be held Friday, May 21st in Boston.
