She Ping - Chinese Beekeeper break world record for covering his body with 33kg bees

She Ping - Chinese Beekeeper break world record for covering his body with 33kg bees

A Chinese beekeeper has attempted to break a world record by covering his body with more than 33kg bees

A chinese beekeeper donned a 73-pound coat of live bees on Wednesday in a daring record-breaking attempt.

Assistants helped cover She Ping with more than 331,000 bees, the Associated Press reported. The entire process took about one hour, and left only parts of Ping’s face exposed.

Chinese beekeeper She Ping covered with an estimated 331,000 honeybees, in an attempt to break the world record for such a practice.

They don't all swarm on him at once. In nightmare terms, it's worse than that. Mr She, an apiarist in the city of Chongqing, has a queen bee placed on his body, and then stands in a basin into which bees are poured; they climb up him to get to the queen, and the whole process takes about an hour. An hour! You'd have confessed to anything long since, wouldn't you?

Not that Mr She is completely the daredevil he might seem; look closely, and you can just see cotton wool buds protruding from his nostrils, to prevent occurrences of that complaint with which two-year-olds are taken to casualty with, "foreign-body-in-the-nose". And an assistant keeps bees away from his face with burning incense.

But otherwise he's completely covered, with 33.1 kilograms of bees, and he gets "a few" stings. He was doing it to break the previous record for a "bee mantle", as it is officially called, which Chinese media believed was set by a Jiangxi province beekeeper, Ruan Liangming, in 2008, with 26.8 kilos of bees about his person.

Alas, a check with the Guinness World Records website reveals the record is actually held by Vipin Seth from India, who was covered with 61.4 kilos of bees – 613,500 insects – on March 9 2009.

Back to the drawing board, Mr She. And don't forget your cotton wool buds.

World's biggest airport - Beijing Daxing International airport in China

World's biggest airport - Beijing Daxing International airport in China

When Beijing Daxing International airport opens in 2015, the Chinese capital will become the world's busiest aviation hub, handling around 370,000 passengers a day.

It is only three years since the opening of Terminal 3 at Beijing Capital Airport, a sweeping structure designed by Sir Norman Foster that is far bigger than all of Heathrow's five terminals combined.

But an enormous boom in China's aviation industry has already left the capital's existing facilities stretched to breaking point. "It is impossible to add even one more flight to the tight daily schedule of the Capital airport," said Li Jiaxing, the minister in charge of China's Civil Aviation Administration.

"The existing airport in Beijing has an annual capacity of 75 million passengers. Last year it handled 73 million," said Cao Yunchun, a professor at the country's Civil Aviation University. "In two years, it will be totally packed. And it cannot be expanded infinitely," he added.

Instead, Beijing's planners have found a 21 sq mile site to the south of the city, in the suburb of Daxing. Currently the site is around an hour's drive from the city centre, but planners are pencilling in an extension to Beijing's metro, and perhaps even a high-speed train line.

World`s largest medicinal botanic garden set Guinness World Records in China

World`s largest medicinal botanic garden set Guinness World Records in China.

Beijing: A medicinal botanical garden in southwest China has been confirmed by Guinness World Records as the largest of its kind in the world, a garden official said Friday.

Located in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and spread over an area of 202 hectares (over 2 square kilometres), the garden has been confirmed to be containing the most varieties of medicinal plants and the largest cultivated area of medicinal plants in the world, Xinhua reported.

The garden, till date, has saved over 6,000 kinds of living medicinal plants (including more than 100 endangered varieties and over 30 new varieties), more than 3,200 kinds of medicinal plant seeds and 100,000 medicinal plant images.

Built in 1959 by Guangxi`s health department, its objective is to cultivate, collect and save medicinal plants besides conducting research.

The garden is expected to be built into an advanced international medicinal plants conservation base and a centre for traditional Chinese medicine culture and science.

Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region is one of China`s most undeveloped provinces. But it is known for its large variety of herbal medicines and the ethnic minority cultures of Zhuang and Yao.

A botanical garden is a well-tended area displaying a wide range of plants labelled with their botanical names. It may contain special plant collections.

World's longest Christmas cake set Guinness World Record in Shanghai,China

World's longest Christmas cake set Guinness World Record in Shanghai,China

A one-kilometre long cake achieved a new Guinness World Record in Shanghai on Thursday during a charity event to raise funds for children with cancer.

                                                World's longest Christmas cake picture

The world's longest ever Christmas cake, a 1,068 metre-long (3,504 foot) vanilla flavoured log with a bitter chocolate frosting, was created by 80 cooks from the five star Pudong Shangri-la Hotel.

Preparation took several days and the final set up involved 150 staff members working for 24 hours straight, with the cake placed on 156 tables lined up in the hotel lobby.

"We make the sponge, we bake and then, when it's cooled down, we make our vanilla cream, which is inside, we roll it up, and we make our very secret recipe of chocolate frosting," explained the hotel's pastry chef Yusuf Yaran.

"We put it all over the cake, and then we have our candy decorations and some icing sugar on the top," Yaran said.

The record-breaking recipe required 904 organic eggs, 1,045 kilograms (2,304 pounds) of wheat flour, 209 kilograms (461 pounds) of cane sugar, 633 litres (1,114 pints) of fresh cream, 401 kilograms (884 pounds) of bitter chocolate and 34 kilograms (75 pounds) of vanilla from Tahiti.

Ulrich Jablonka, executive chef at the hotel, said that the planning was the most arduous part of the process.

The previous record for a Christmas log cake was achieved by French chefs in Paris exactly a year ago, on December 1st, 2010, according to Guinness World Records.

It measured 207.8 metres (682 feet).

Chefs in Shanghai intended to make the cake stretch out for 888 metres (2,913 feet), so the announcement of the final length far exceeded expectations.

The cake was sliced immediately and sold to the public for 2 yuan (0.31 US dollars) per piece.

Adili Wushouer photo, Longest period of mid air walking picture, Guinness Book of World Record 2010, China tightrope walker video
Legendary tightrope walker Adili Wushouer has broken the Guinness World Record for steel wire walking at the Bird's Nest Stadium in Beijing, after living and walking above the Beijing 2008 Olympic venue for 60 days.

Adili, known as the Prince of Tightrope Walking, came down to the ground by wire to cheers from hundreds of spectators.

The tightrope walker managed to spend 60 days living above the stadium, walking for at least five hours every day on a 60-metre (197 feet) high steel wire, measuring just 3.3 centimetres (1.29 inches) in diameter.

Adili, who has already held five Guinness World Records for various stunts, is the most famous tightrope walker in China. But never satisfied, Adili wanted to break his own record of longest time walking on a wire, so he began the challenge on May 3.

In front of officials from Guinness and hundreds of spectators, Adili completed his final several kilometres and landed on the ground while holding a Chinese national flag on Friday morning and was awarded the Guinness Record certificate afterwards.

Adili was recorded to have spent a total of 198 hours and 33 minutes walking on the wire: "Today is the happiest day of my life. The Guinness record does not only belong to myself. It is a record for all the Chinese people. It is also a record of the Uighur Dawazi which has a history of more than 2,000 years in Xinjiang region."

Wire walking, named "Dawazi" in western China, is a traditional sport of the Uighurs, an ethnic group originating from northwestern China. In his previous record in 2002, Adili lived for 25 consecutive days above the ground and tightrope walked for a total of 123 hours and 48 minutes.

World's Biggest IPO - Agricultural Bank of China

The Agriculture Bank of China on Wednesday earned regulatory approval for what might prove to be the world’s largest initial public offering. The world record is held by another Chinese bank, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, which garnered $21.6 billion in an IPO in 2006.

ABC faces two challenges in its efforts to raise a large quantum of funds: a depressed market and low ratings by Fitch, which has allotted the lender its second lowest rating of “E”. But bank officials have assured potential investors that the public offering will not be delayed due to weak market situation, which is at a 13-month low. The offering is expected to take place late June or early July simultaneously in Shanghai and Hong Kong.

The China Securities Regulatory Commission made a brief announcement on Wednesday in its web site saying it had approved the IPO plan for the Beijing based ABC. The bank is the last of the "big four" state-owned banks to seek a share listing. It plans to sell a total of up to 53 billion shares. State-run newspapers have said trading on the shares will begin in mid-July.

It is not clear if the regulator is trying to use the IPO to pull up the market. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index gained 2.8% closing at 2,583.87 after the announcement. ABC will issue shares worth 15 percent of its equity. It has chosen Goldman Sachs Group, JP Morgan Chase & Co., Macquarie Group Ltd., China International Capital Corp., and Deutsche Bank AG to run its IPO in Hong Kong. CICC and three other Chinese brokerages will advise on share sales in China. ABC has not yet set the IPO price but market sources said it was trying to raise between $23 billion and $30 billion.

It is a giant bank with 24,000 branches and more than 350 million customers enjoying a near monopoly in rural banking in China. Unlike the three other big state-run banks, ABC has not yet taken a foreign strategic partner.

World’s finest collection of important Chinese snuff bottles set world record 2010

LONDON.- Bonhams Hong Kong today celebrated the first-ever “Golden Gavel Auction” in its history, when part of the world’s finest collection of important Chinese snuff bottles, the Mary and George Bloch Collection, sold 100% and achieved world record prices. Against presale estimates of HK$20,000,000 (£1.8m), the sale total was HK$66,146,800 (£5.8m), with every one of the 140 rare bottles successfully sold. This figure was double the previous sale total for a single-owner snuff bottle auction held in New York on 19 March 2008.

Auctioneer Colin Sheaf, Chairman of Bonhams Asia, commented: “This is the finest auction of Chinese art which Bonhams has held in Asia, and the record prices proved that the market for Chinese art remains very strong for the most important pieces”.

As expected, the star of the auction was lot 129, one of the most beautiful bottles in private hands ever made for the Imperial Court of 18th Century China. Estimated at HK$1,800,000 – 3,000,000, international bidders from mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore and the UK battled the bidding up to a final figure of HK$9,280,000 (£821,383,000), a new world record price for a snuff bottle.

Other record prices included lot 140, an inscribed nephrite pebble-material snuff bottle which went for a world record price for any jade snuff bottle at HK$6,032,000 (estimate: HK$1,000,000 – 2,000,000); lot 132, an Imperial “famille-rose” ‘bird on branch’ enamelled glass snuff bottle, Qianlong mark and period, which sold at HK$5,248,000 (estimate: HK$2,000,000 – 4,00,000) a world record for any enamelled glass snuff bottle; lot 27, an Imperial famille-rose poreclain bottle, Qianlong mark and period, similar to others in the National Palace Museum, Taiwan, which sold at HK$3,960,000 (estimate: HK$1,400,000 – 2,000,000), a world record for any enamelled porcelain snuff bottle; lot 8, a double-overlay sapphire-blue and white glass ‘dragon’ snuff bottle which sold at HK$672,000 (estimate: HK$220,000 – 350,000), a world record price for any glass overlay snuff bottle; lot 34, an inside-painted rock-crystal snuff bottle which sold at HK$336,000 (estimate: HK$60,000 – 120,000), a world record for any inside-painted snuff bottle by Gan Xuanwen; and two other superb Imperial Beijing enamel bottles, lot 77, which flew past its estimate of HK$1,400,000 – 2,500,000 to make HK$4,200,000 and lot 67, which sold for HK$2,640,000 (estimate HK$1,800,000 – 3,000,000).

Many of the finest bottles at Bonhams were bid for and bought by active collectors from Mainland China, the first time that such strong demand from Chinese buyers has been seen anywhere in the world for Imperial Chinese snuff bottles.

Bonhams’ Head of Chinese Ceramic and Works of Art in Hong Kong Julian King who prepared the auction, said: “Today saw a new buying power in the world market for Imperial Chinese art. This marked an important change in the whole structure of prices for the finest pieces at Bonhams.”

Most people attendance in china Auto Show Set World Record 2010

Most people attendance in china Auto Show Set World Record 2010

More than 800,000 people visited Auto China 2010, which wrapped up on Sunday, making it the best-attended motor show in the world, organizers say.

Auto show sets world record attendance figure

The 10-day event, held at the China International Exhibition Center, featured 990 cars from almost all manufacturers from around the globe, including 89 models making their world debut.

With its theme "For a Greener Tomorrow", 95 energy-saving vehicles also made their debut. As well, 65 concept cars were on show.

On Saturday, thanks to the three-day May Day holidays and rising temperatures, more than 145,900 visitors went to the show, the 11th staging of the city's auto exhibition.

The huge visitor numbers put pressure on the traffic between the city and the exhibition center in the Shunyi district. In addition, some of the more popular exhibitors had to restrict the numbers of visitors.

Tang Tang, an enthusiast in his 20s, came from his hometown in Jiangxi province and was overwhelmed by the huge crowd.

"Heavy traffic meant it took a long time to get to the show," he told METRO. "The roads were much more crowded than I thought it would be."

Tang's journey to the show also involved him taking a 20-hour train journey.

"The show in the new venue is quite exciting, though, especially the luxury car displays," he said.

Last year, China replaced the United States as the world's largest auto market, and the strong sales have continued this year, with more than 4 million sold in the first quarter.

But critics say a successful show and record sales do not prove China has a strong auto industry.
