Medusa - World’s Largest Snake

Medusa - World’s Largest Snake

Shortly after the release of the 2013 Guinness World Records book, a new record has already slithered its way into the books, with the world’s largest snake in captivity.

The new record-breaking snake is a 25 feet and two inch long Reticulated Python named Medusa, who lives at The Edge of Hell attraction in Kansas City, Missouri, reports The Examiner.

The Edge of Hell attraction is run by Full Moon Productions and uses Medusa to entertain visitors at the attraction, particularly those afraid of snakes.

She is a 350-pound reticulated python who usually sits in a small nook of the attraction coiled up, seemingly enjoying her posh lifestyle. The Daily Mail notes that Medusa’s handler and Edge of Hell general manager, Larry Edgar states that:

“We try to keep Medusa well-fed and slightly out of reach as there have been instances with Reticulated Pythons where they’ve had to cut people out of them! We never underestimate that she does always have the upper-hand.”

Despite the fact that Reticulated Pythons are known for wrapping themselves around humans, Medusa has been known to nudge her handler, Edgar, for his assistance in shedding her skin, especially when it gets tough.

She often gets a large crowd when she makes rare visits to local parks around Kansas City as well. Amber Arnett-Bequeaith,Vice President of Full Moon Productions and Medusa’s Spokesperson, states that:

A wedding between two dogs has set a new world record for the most expensive pet wedding.

The New York City nuptials between Baby Hope Diamond and Chilly Pasternak had a price tag of $158,000, but was also a fundraiser for the Humane Society of New York. Chilly won a contest to find Baby Hope's groom.

Baby Hope, a Coton Du Tulear, wore a dress by designers Henry and Michelle Roth. The reception included jazz music and a sushi buffet. Representatives from Guinness World Records were also on hand for the event.

Baby Hope's owner, Wendy Diamond, said the event was to commemorate another dog she had named Lucky, which died recently, and to raise awareness of canine cancer, as well as animal rescue and welfare.

The Fairytail Wedding of the Century cost $250 per person to attend.

Lolong crocodile: World’s largest crocodile sets World Records by Philippines

Lolong crocodile: World’s largest crocodile sets World Records by Philippines.

A saltwater crocodile weighing more than a ton and suspected of killing two people in the Philippines has been declared the largest such reptile in captivity by the Guinness Book of World Records.

The 6.17-meter male, nicknamed “Lolong,” was captured in the Agusan marsh on the southern island of Mindanao last September after a two-year search following the killing of a girl and the disappearance of a fisherman.
                                                     World’s largest crocodile Picture

The largest crocodile in captivity is Lolong, a saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus), who measured 6.17 m,” Guinness said. “Lolong’s weight was also measured at a truck weigh-bridge and verified as 1,075 kg.”
Welinda Asis Elorde, media affairs coordinator for the town of Bunawan, which has custody of the new record-holder, said yesterday the local government had received an official certification from Guinness. “He’s doing well. I think he has already adapted to his new environment,” Elorde told AFP.

At first, Lolong was fed the equivalent of 10 percent of his body weight in beef and poultry every month, but an expert put him on a diet of eight to 10 kg a week to get him to be more active, she added.

The expert also recommended that the meat be given with skin and feathers attached, to help digestion.

“I was there (at the crocodile park where Lolong is kept) yesterday and he remains a big tourist attraction. Hundreds of people visit him in a day,” Elorde said. The Guinness record was previously held by Cassius, a 5.48-meter Australian crocodile weighing close to a ton.

Boston terrier - World's Largest dog eyes

A four-year-old Boston terrier from Texas has been found to have the largest dog eyes on the planet by Guinness World Records.

Bruschi’s giant googly eyes were found to measure 28 millimetres in diameter each, or roughly the size of a watch face.

"The eyes are big on a Boston terrier anyway," Bruschi's owner Victoria Reed told The Huffington Post.

"But when I'd bring him out in public, people would say, 'Wow, he has huge eyes'.

"My vet joked a few months ago about submitting his photo to Guinness and I just went for it," said the 18-year-old, who came across Bruschi three years ago while working at Operation Kindness, a dog shelter near Arlington, Texas.

Ms Reed plans to use her dog's new found fame to raise awareness about Operation Kindness, but also hopes to use their celebrity status to "meet the world's largest dog and other dog record holders."

Upon getting official confirmation of their feat, Reed immediately informed Bruschi, who she said took to the news particularly well.

Smokey - World's Loudest Cat set world record with 92-decibel purr

Smokey photo,
Smokey picture, World's Loudest Cat 2011, World's Loudest Cat video, World's Loudest Cat world record, loudest purr in the world, Loudest Cat in the world, Smokey Loudest voice
Smokey the World's Loudest Cat hopes for a world record with 92-decibel purr.

Meet Smokey, the cat thought to have the loudest purr in the world – making a racket which feels ten times louder than a regular purr.

Her roars of contentment have left her owners reaching for earplugs and unable to watch television or talk on the phone when she is nearby.

‘She has always been very vocal and purrs at some level nearly all the time,’ said Ruth Adams, who adopted Smokey from a rescue centre for her ten-year-old daughter, Amy.

‘She even manages to purr while she eats. The only time she is quiet is when she is asleep.

‘When I’m on the phone, friends often ask what the loud noise is. They can’t believe it is coming from a cat.’

A few other sounds that are around 92dB:

    * A traffic jam
    * 747 coming in for a landing
    * Train whistle
    * Tractor

Note that 90-95dB is the threshold beyond which prolonged exposure can cause hearing loss. That is a very loud cat. Smokey is not quite as loud as a motorcycle, but she's pretty close.

Most cats purr at about 25 decibels but Smokey averages more than 80 and has been recorded at a deafening 92 – the same as a hair dryer.

‘It’s either adorable or annoying, depending on what mood you’re in,’ said Mrs Adams, who also shares her house with husband Mark, two children, two dogs and two other cats. ‘You don’t even have to stroke her to start a purring session – often she’ll do it for no reason.

‘It can be annoying if her loud purring starts as you are watching television and it has reached a romantic bit in a film, because it’s impossible to hear and spoils the moment.’

Smokey, 12, did not seem bothered by the noise, although it sometimes made her cough, said Mrs Adams.

‘It’s not just the volume of her purr which is unusual – she makes quite a unique sound, as if she has a dove stuck in her throat,’ she added. ‘My daughter thinks it is adorable.’

The family, of Pitsford near Northampton, has now sent an application to Guinness World Records. ‘The record for the loudest scream by a human is 129 decibels,’ said a record official.

‘If Smokey the cat is able to purr at over 80 decibels, it would be an astonishing feat.’

A cat in Reno has broken the Guinness world record for world's longest domestic cat. The Reno Gazette-Journal reported that a 5-year-old Maine Coon named Stewie was certified as the new record holder after measuring 48 1/2 inches from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail bone. That's a little more than 4 feet long.

The record was previously held by another Maine Coon that measured 48 inches.
Stewie's owners, Robin Hendrickson and Erik Brandsness, said they decided to try for the record after hearing countless people say they were amazed by Stewie's length.

Hendrickson said Maine Coons are known as "the gentle giants" of the cat world.

This small dog has a tongue that is over 4 1/2 inches long and can be seen hanging out on walks, at the park and even sitting in the car. Apparently Puggy doesn't have a problem with the tongue hanging out and never did because it is what made him special.

This cute little fur ball definitely can lay his claim as having the longest tongue while still enjoying everything in life. Doesn't four plus inches sounds really long? Take a look at the video. When you see this tongue it looks much longer than that!

World's Tallest Cat 2011 - Tallest and Longest domestic cat records

World's Tallest Cat 2011 - Tallest and Longest domestic cat Guinness Book of World Records.

Two feline records have been broken in the latest edition of the "Guinness Book of World Records," released last week. The tallest and longest domestic cat records are held by Scarlett's Magic, an F1 Savannah.

Scarlett's Magic measures 18.07 in. (45.90 cm.) tall and 42.72 inches (108.51 cm) long. Kimberly and Lee Draper own the cat, who held the previous record but broke it as she continued to grow.

The 2011 Guinness Book of World Records went on sale Sept. 15. Additional cat records this year include "Oldest Cat" Creme Puff, who lived with Jerry Perry in Austin, Texas, for 38 years and 3 days. This edition also offers tales from the broader animal kingdom like Fluffy, the "Longest Snake Ever" at 24 feet, and Colo, the "Oldest Gorilla in Captivity" at 53 years old.

Dogs also break some records. To launch the new edition, Guinness World Records arranged the first meeting between "Giant George" (the new "World's Tallest Dog") and the "World's Smallest Dog" Boo Boo. George stands at 43 in. tall, nearly 7 ft. long and tips the scales at 245 pounds, while Boo Boo could fit into the palm of a hand at merely 4 in. tall. The canine stars of the book got acquainted in New York City's Central Park.

Chichi - oldest living dog in the world set world record 2010

Chichi - World's Oldest Dog chichi set world record 2010.

On Morton Street in the West Village lives a small poodle nearly the same color as the pavement upon which he takes his seven-times daily constitutional. He may very well be the oldest dog on the planet. But he may not live long enough to wear his crown.

According to a long string of people who have owned the little canine, he is at least 22 years old, possibly 24. The official holder of the title of oldest living dog, as recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records, is a mutt from Victoria, Australia, named Sako, born on Dec. 7, 1988 — a relative puppy at 21.

But last week, the West Village poodle fell ill with an as-yet-unidentified ailment, and the proof that he is in fact as old as his family believes may come too late.

He goes by Chichi, or Uncle Chichi, or the Cheech, though at this point what he is called is a bit of a non-issue: he’s almost entirely deaf. His vision is also obscured by cataracts. The loss of two senses, however, doesn’t seem to impede him from following his owner, Frank Pavich, 36, a television producer, or Mr. Pavich’s fiancée, Janet Puhalovic, 34, down Morton Street, where he stands out among the trendy French bulldogs.
World's Oldest Dog picture, recent Chichi photo, video, Current oldest dog in the world 2010, oldest living dog 2010 California, Guinness Book of World Records, oldest dog on the planet,
                           World's Oldest Dog chichi photo
As it grew clearer a few months ago that Chichi’s longevity might indeed be exceptional, Mr. Pavich, with some aid from this reporter, decided to look into getting him into the record book. The people at Guinness need several pieces of proof: documentation of Chichi’s age, or a veterinarian’s statement attesting to it, and pictures or videos that show him aging through the decades. These would then be reviewed by a Guinness board in London.

Mr. Pavich adopted Chichi in January 1996, when the human was 22 and the dog was perhaps 8 or 10. “His early life is shrouded in mystery,” said Mr. Pavich.

According to Celestine Lehmann-Haupt, a relative of Mr. Pavich’s whose mother, Laura Frost, was Chichi’s original owner, the dog was adopted from the John Ancrum Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, in Charleston, S.C., in the fall or winter of 1987 or 1988. Then, shelter employees estimated he was 1½ or 2 years old, she said in an e-mail message.

But the shelter shredded its old records when it moved three years ago, a spokeswoman said.

Similar verification hurdles arose further down the chronological chain. Chichi still has his tag (No. 2836) from Animal Medical West in Charleston, S.C. But Dr. Thomas Hentges, a veterinarian who has treated many tens of thousands of dogs since he began practicing in 1985, said he couldn’t recall the dog nor his then-owners. Dr. Hentges, too, has purged his records.

In 1992, when Mrs. Frost fell ill, Chichi was adopted by her granddaughter, Jane Maybank. (Ms. Maybank, who lives in Charleston, has dug through her grandmother’s old photos for pictures of the Cheech as a pup, to no avail.) She handed Chichi off to Mr. Pavich, who then lived in California, after the dog growled at her new baby.

In the late ’90s, Chichi developed cataracts, glaucoma and a corneal ulcer. At one point he required hourly eye drops around the clock. Mr. Pavich set an alarm and kept a checklist at his bedside to log every drop. “We’ve spent more than a college education on him,” he said. “When you love someone, you don’t care.”

Chichi’s vet in California, Kathleen Boldy, who first saw him in 1998, wrote in a letter to the Guinness Records committee that dogs tend to develop cataracts after the age of 8. His condition, she wrote, was consistent with the age his owners believed him to be.

Chichi is well traveled. Before arriving in New York in 2008, he accompanied Mr. Pavich on location around the country. In February this year, after rebounding from a mysterious illness, Chichi traveled with Mr. Pavich and Ms. Puhalovic to their native Croatia, where he posed for photos in front of monuments like the church of St. Donat in Zadar.

Australian fisherman found 10 Feet Longest Crocodile

An Australian fisherman got the fright of his life when a three-metre (10-foot) saltwater crocodile jumped from the water and locked its jaws on his net.

Joel Pezzutti was casting for bait in a tidal drain in the northern city of Cairns when the croc leapt for his net and scrambled to within touching distance of where he was standing.
"As I was pulling my cast net in, a croc lunged out of the water, ran up the bank and latched onto my cast net," Pezzutti told the AAP newswire.

"I see a lot of crocs when I go fishing out on the boat but this made my heart skip a beat."
Pezzutti said he could have touched the reptile with an outstretched arm if he'd wanted to, adding that it was the "closest contact I've ever had with a croc".
Worried he would be accused of telling tall tales, the fisherman said he dropped his net and ran to the car for a camera and torch to get photographic evidence.

"It was still sitting there on the bank. It hadn't moved and it wasn't scared of me," he said.
An average of two people are killed each year in Australia by aggressive saltwater crocodiles, which can grow up to seven metres (23 feet) long and weigh more than a tonne.

World's Ugliest Dog - Miss Ellie has died at 17

                                       Miss Ellie Photo
Miss Ellie, who won Animal Planet's "World's Ugliest Dog Contest" in June of 2009 has passed away.

Ellie was a Chinese Crested Hairless dog who had a career in show business in the Smoky Mountains (at the Comedy Barn in Pigeon Forge).

Chinese Crested dogs are funny-looking to start with, but Miss Ellie was particularly homely. She was of that "so ugly she's cute" variety of animal that seems to occur in all creatures save humans. Miss Ellie, who was about 15 at the time of her win, only had a couple of back teeth (which is why her tongue hung out the side of her mouth -- nothing to keep it in!), cataracts in both her eyes, several moles, pimples and limited hair (see article about win at Mail Online).

She'd been rescued from a poor life inside a cage to become a local celebrity. It's wonderful that the poor dog had at least a couple good years getting the attention she deserved. It's somewhat of a shame, though, that she only had 2 years. Dogs kept in small cages under less than ideal conditions seldom have long lives, but 17 is rather respectable for any dog, especially for a dog whose lifespan is supposed to be 10-12 years (according to the Dog Breed Info Center).

The Sonoma Marin Fair holds an Ugly Dog contest every year, and people come from all around to compete. This year's fair will be held June 25 in Petaluma, California. If you'd like to help pick the next World's Ugliest dog, go to the Sonoma Fair Ugly Dog Contest website and vote.

A quick look around show some especially ugly dogs this year. It just really goes to show that it doesn't matter how ugly, there is someone who will love them! Here are some of the contestants from previous years:

World's Smallest Dog - Scooter

Smallest Dog in the World - Scooter picture.

The tiny ball of white fluff is just 8cm tall and measures just over 20cm from his nose to his tail. While Scooter is still young, he appears to have stopped growing.

The Guinness Book of World Records title holder - a long-haired chihuahua in America named Boo Boo - is bigger at just over 10cm tall.

Scooter's size is also evident in his weight, or lack of it. He weighs less than a block of butter at 400 grams - and that is while he is wearing clothes.

Owner Cheryl McKnight, from Gisborne on the east coast of New Zealand's North Island, fashioned a regular purple sock into a jersey, which Scooter wears so he is easily seen around the house.

"Dogs have to weigh at least 870 grams before they can leave their mums for the shops, and he has not even reached halfway."

As Scooter scoots around the lounge floor, he is dwarfed by plastic toy figurines belonging to Ms McKnight's grandson.

When friends come to visit, one of the first things they say is that they want to take Scooter home with them.

Scooter was originally named Pee Wee, but Ms McKnight decided to change the name, saying she didn't want him to suffer an inferiority complex.

Tallest Cat in the World 2010 - Savannah

This is "Scarlett's Magic", a 17.1 inch tall F1 Savannah Cat and the current tallest cat in the World. The cat is measured from it's toes to shoulders. Scarlett's Magic lives with a loving family in Corona, California USA.

The Savannah is an amalgam domestic cat breed. It is a cross between the serval and a domestic cat.

Savannahs are considered one of the larger breeds of domesticated cats. The savannah's tall and slim build gives the appearance of greater size than their actual weight. Size is very dependent on generation and sex, with F1 hybrid male cats usually being the largest. F1 hybrid and F2 hybrids are usually the largest, due to the stronger genetic influence of the African Serval ancestor.

A female F1 Savannah Cat named "Scarlett's Magic," measuring 43.43 centimeters or 17.1 inches from shoulder to toe, is the tallest cat in the world, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. Male Savannahs tend to be larger than females. It is possible for early generation Savannahs to weigh up to 20lbs or more, with the higher weight usually attributed to the F2 or F3 neutered males, though this is not the norm. Later generation Savannahs are usually between 10 to 15lbs. Because of the random factors in Savannah hybrid genetics, there can be significant variation in size, even in one litter.

Savannah’s prices range from $5,000 to $50,000, but the record-breaking elegant herself is not for sale.

World's smallest Lightweight newborn horse set World Record

World's smallest Lightweight newborn horse Picture

BARNSTEAD, N.H. — A diminutive horse born in New Hampshire could lay claim to the world record for lightweight foal.

The pinto stallion named Einstein weighed just 6 pounds and measured 14 inches in height when he was born Friday in Barnstead, N.H. Those proportions fit a human baby just about right but are downright tiny for horse, even a miniature breed like Einstein.

Dr. Rachel Wagner, Einstein’s co-owner, says the Guinness Book of Records lists the smallest newborn horse as weighing in at 9 pounds.

Breeders say that unlike the current record holder, Thumbelina, Einstein shows no signs of dwarfism. Instead, he’s just a tiny horse.

World's fastest skateboarding dog - Tillman

Tillman, the world’s fastest skateboarding canine, has set paw in New York for the first time.

The 4-year-old English bulldog traveled from Southern California for Saturday’s “Bark in the Park” event, when Mets fans can catch a game with their pooch at Citi Field.

“He loves New York,” says Tillman’s owner, 40-year-old Ron Davis, as the bulldog showed off his skills in Tompkins Square Park. “There is a lot of concrete for him to do his thing.”

The 60-pound dog even turns and does tricks.

“He just pulled a no-comply, top-shove-it move that we got on tape,” says Davis, who has also trained Tillman to surf and snowboard. “What can I say? He’s an adrenaline junkie.”

Named after the late NFL star and U.S. Army Ranger Pat Tillman, the board-crazy canine set the world record in 2009 by rolling 100 meters in 19.6 seconds.

Davis attributes Tillman’s skateboarding skills to his sturdy body and unique warmup method.

“Tillman’s ritual before he skates is to chew on each wheel,” says Davis. “I think it’s a way of lubing them up and checking the tire pressure.”

World's Smartest Horse - Lukas

Chino Hills, Calif., USA -- Lukas, a 17-year-old thoroughbred gelding in Chino Hills, Calif., was trained by his owner Karen Murdoch, to master 35 amazing feats - setting the world record for the Smartest Horse.

Lukas now 17, is a rescued off-the-track thoroughbred who had bowed both tendons as a young horse preparing for a life of racing. The injuries precluded him from ever seeing the starting gate in a race. Lukas changed hands a few times and at one point was malnourished before finding his trainer and owner, Karen Murdock. Lukas came into Karen's life when he was around 10 years of age. "I was only hoping to show him in a few lower level tests". "Put a few tricks into him and sell him to a good home", however Lukas had other ideas. And so a partnership based on mutual respect and rewards begun. They have been learning together for the past 6 or 7 years.

watched in awe of a "Playing With Lukas" video on YouTube that shows Lukas identifying colors, shapes, and catching a rag being tossed towards his face. Horses would not normally want something flying around their head, so the level of trust is shown with just the simple act of his catching the towel. Lukas is motivated by carrots and responds throughout the video to patience, reassuring words, subtle hand gestures, clicks and smooches from Karen. All the while looking for that next delicious carrot.

Karen and Lukas want to focus on spreading the word that horses have a great deal of potential beyond the race track, and those facing bleak futures. "People everywhere mention to me that they didn't realize a horse could understand things like Lukas is able to". Lukas is able to perform at-liberty high level dressage moves to walking on his own down a driveway to play hide and seek with a towel. "If people know horses are smart, they are less likely to hurt them" says Karen. "It's a way for us to communicate and have fun together".

Karen Murdock is happy to offer Lukas and his talents to non profit groups and isn't looking to make a profit from the time and patience it's taken to build the bond between horse and owner. Karen says "I am just happy to be putting good out into the world".
