Daniel Cutting - Freestyle Football World Record 2011

Daniel Cutting - Freestyle Football World Record

Freestyle football champion Daniel Cutting has set yet another record to add to his bulging CV, as he performed 1534 keep-ups with a Swiss ball, which was caught on camera at Klick Fitness gym in Stoke.

The video showcases Daniel's amazing football skills and has already been shared by fans on the video sharing website, YouTube. Daniel already holds three other different freestyle football records and even acted as a body double for Real Madrid star Kaka in a famous Adidas advert.

His other world records include the quickest time to run 100 metres with a football balanced on the head, which he did effortlessly in 18.53 seconds; the most consecutive football rolls across the forehead at 1,810 and last but not least an incredible 153 touches, the most football touches with the lips in 1 minute.

Daniel is already well known for his champion freestyle football skills after appearances at top events around the world with famous footballers, performances at live shows with a range of celebrities, plus his work with many high profile brands and football clubs.

However, after Daniel's feat to set the record for the most keep-ups with a Swiss ball at the Klick Fitness gym, he is set to enjoy even wider recognition thanks to the YouTube clip which will no doubt be shared by many.

While at the gym Daniel also spared a bit of time to show off a number of impressive other skills too.

In between his trips around the world, he makes time to visit schools and youth groups where he has brought football freestyle skills to others, teaching them impressive football tricks and stunts. Staff and members of the Stoke gym are thrilled that he has managed to set another record in their gym.

Neil Currey, Club Manager at Klick Fitness Stoke, commented: 'We were extremely excited to have Daniel appear at our Stoke gym and our members were too! It was a memorable moment that will go down in Klick Fitness history - and we're not sure that our members will look at Swiss balls in the same way again! It just goes to show that there's never a dull moment at Klick Fitness gyms - you never know what might happen! We're hugely pleased for Daniel at his latest achievement.'

World's Largest Dodgeball Game - Alberta Students set Guinness World Record 2011

With a total of 2,012 participants, the University of Alberta struck back Friday and regained the Guinness World Record for the largest dodgeball game — a record they originally set one year ago.

Last year, the U of A set the record with 1,198 participants. That record stood until last September when the University of California, Irvine set a new record with 1,745 players. However, under the eyes of an official judge from Guinness flown in for the event, the U of A was easily able to regain the record Friday afternoon.

"We did it. We got our goal. We had people in the stands watching and everybody left with a big smile on their face," said Rory Tighe, Students' Union Vice President (Student Life) and organizer of the game. "The national pride definitely came out, the school spirit came out, and the whole community was here so it worked out perfectly."

Spectators included Mayor Stephen Mandel, President Indira Samarasekera, various members of the community, and U of A alumni. The game was preceded by a rendition of "O Canada" by Oilers' anthem singer Paul Lorieau.

After the opening ceremonies, an epic clash between Team Green and Team Gold commenced, with students, alumni, and staff creating a red sky of 1,006 dodgeballs flying back and forth across the floor as a crowd cheered them on.

After 44 minutes and 17 seconds, the Gold Team came out victorious and were able to outlast their green opponents and win for the second year in a row.

The game was an exhilarating experience for all involved and Tighe believes it's something that shows off a great U of A community.

The game was also a victory for Canada, as the competing record attempts seem to have led to an international feud of sorts between the U of A and UCI. The advertising campaign at UCI motivated students to play because they 'couldn't let those Canadians have the record.'
Tighe said he was surprised at the international competition the dodgeball record sparked.
"To be honest, I was surprised how fast it caught on, that other schools and other institutions were trying to break it," he said. "They tried a few times to break the record and UC Irvine finally succeeded and within months we're smash[ing] that. So I'd like to see their retort after this."

The U of A's latest victory in this feud seems to be in part due to the large following that dodgeball has gained on campus over the past few years. But Tighe sees the event as more than just a simple game of dodgeball.

"It's more about the community spirit, it's just we haven't found anything else that people have responded this well too."

These games may turn into an annual event due to the incredible popularity, and some participants are still hoping that another school will respond to their defeat and continue the feud.

Historic achievement by Gujarati sportsmen are few and far between. But the GMDC ground in Ahmedabad is all set to witness a record being set on Friday. Twenty thousand people will assemble at the ground and play chess in an attempt to create a Guinness world record in chess of the largest number of players playing the game simultaneously at one venue.

The current record is held by Mexico City. They set a new record for simultaneous chess games in December 2006 when 13,446 players faced off at the same time in a vast Spanish colonial square at the heart of the former Aztec empire.

The initiative to set a record in chess was taken by none other than Chief Minister Narendra Modi almost a year back. Ever since, the government machinery, the Gujarat State Chess Association and NIIT have been working hand in hand to make the event a success.

The record breaking event will be led by world chess champion Viswanathan Anand, who will play with 50 players.

The ground has been divided into eight squares.  Each square will have 320 players and 16 masters. One master will play with 20 players. Eighty per cent of the matches have to be completed in a span of two hours for the record to be notified in the Guiness Book. An adjudicator from the Guinness Book has already arrived in the city from London and she will confirm the record as and when the games are over.

“All arrangements are in place. We are really hopeful that by Friday evening the grand chess event at GMDC ground will find its name in Guinness Book of Records,” said Mayur Patel, secretary Gujarat State Chess Association.

Bridgette Allen set new volleyball World Record

A local father-daughter duo recently combined their competitive spirit with their passion for volleyball to help set a new Guinness World Record for most consecutive volleyball passes.

Craig and Bridgette Allen participated last month, as the Triangle Volleyball Club hosted the record attempt in conjunction with the Mid-Atlantic Power League tournament in Raleigh. Bridgette is a four-year member of the Triangle team, which Craig describes as the elite volleyball club in Raleigh.

The new record of 110 successful passes beat the previous record of 92 set in Germany in 2006. (A first attempt at breaking the old record was halted at 17 with an errant pass.)

The record is for consecutive forearm passes over the net with a different person making each pass. Triangle Volleyball Club donated $1 for every registered participant in the attempt to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund to aid the victims of the recent earthquake in Haiti.

Participants included student-athletes, coaches and parents.

"They let old codgers like myself do it," Craig, a former player, said.

"It was a big adrenaline rush, especially taking it from the Germans," Bridgette added. "Doing it with Dad, it was funny not having ever seen him play."

Volleyball has always been a family affair for the Allens, who live near the Embro community. Craig has been involved for many years as both a player and a coach, he and wife Denise have coached together, and Bridgette followed in big sister Tiffany's footsteps.

When Tiffany, now a college student, took an interest in playing, both her parents coached, and as Tiffany moved up through age groups, Bridgette starting taking an interest.

Craig said that Bridgette, at around age 8, wanted to be team manager for her sister's team, which consisted of 15 year olds. The team was short on players, and Craig gave in to his younger daughter's request.

"We had seven players and really needed one more. (Bridgette) convinced me to let her suit up and be there just in case," he said.

Bridgette would slap her foot on the floor and slouch down in her chair because she wanted to play, Craig said, and during a regional tournament in Greensboro she got her chance when another player was benched.

Sachin Tendulkar world record - Biggest one-day score

Sachin Tendulkar confirmed his status as one of cricket's all-time great batsmen on Wednesday, adding the highest individual one-day international score to his list of world records.

The 36-year-old became the first player to score a double-century in the 50-over format as India thrashed South Africa by 153 runs in the second match of the series in Gwalior to take an unassailable 2-0 lead.

Tendulkar surpassed the previous record of 194, which was jointly held by Pakistan's Saeed Anwar and Charles Coventry of Zimbabwe, to take his record total of runs to 17,598 in 442 one-day internationals played.

He passed three figures for the 46th time, and has now scored 17 more one-day centuries than his closest rival Ricky Ponting of Australia.

Tendulkar, one of India's most popular sporting heroes, also holds the records for most runs and most centuries in the five-day Test format.

"I don't know how to react to this," he told reporters after being presented with a silver bat to mark his 20 years in the sport.

"I would like to dedicate this double hundred to all the people of India who stood with me for the last 20 years. I really appreciate their support. This is for all the people in India."

Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni hailed his teammate, with whom he added an unbroken 101 at breakneck pace.

"Even when he's tired and can't play the big shots, he's very clever to use the pace of the bowler," Dhoni said. "It's very difficult for the bowlers, they don't know exactly where to bowl, so I think he batted really well."

Tendulkar made only four in India's victory in the first match on Sunday, but batted throughout the home team's innings of 401-3 as he made exactly 200.

Tendulkar put on 194 for the second wicket with Dinesh Karthik after the early departure of Virender Sehwag for nine with the score on 25.

Tendulkar scorched to his 50 from only 37 deliveries before Karthik became Wayne Parnell's second victim, having made 79 off 85 balls with three sixes.

Yusuf Pathan matched Tendulkar's ferocious scoring rate as he clubbed 36 off 23 deliveries, adding 81 with the man known as "the Little Master."

Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni then joined in with a rapid 68 off only 35 balls, hitting four sixes, while Tendulkar reached 200 with a single off Charl Langeveldt in the final over.

As well as three sixes, he hit 25 boundaries -- the most in any individual one-day innings -- in his 147-ball knock.

South Africa set the record for highest run chase of 438-9 against Australia in 2006, and needed to score the third biggest mark to overhaul India's total.

But the tourists did not get close, being dismissed for 248 with 7.1 overs left in their allocation.

A.B. De Villiers top-scored with an unbeaten 114, his fifth one-day century, but the Proteas' next best was 34 from opener Hashim Amla.

Recalled seam bowler Shanthakumaran Sreesanth took three wickets for India, while Ravindra Jadeja, Pathan and Ashish Nehra claimed two victims each.

DALLAS - It was the "shot heard 'round the world,'" and a world record, set by one of our own Orlando Magic players.

On Saturday February 13, during NBA All-Star Jam Session in Dallas, Magic man Dwight Howard entered the Guinness Book of World Records by hitting the longest basketball shot while sitting down. After nailing one from half-court, Howard scooted back to 52 feet and six inches, flicked his wrist, and made history.

"I was just having fun. They asked me to do it before we got to Dallas, to 'break your own record,' and it was all in the wrist," Howard told FOX 35. "I talked to Reggie Miller before it and he said just flick your wrist, and it worked."

When asked if he was he genuinely surprised after he made the shot, Howard said, "Uh, it was one of those shots we practice every day as a team... just kidding."

Organizers at the University of Alberta attempted to shatter a world record by hosting a 1,000-person dodgeball game. And while the Edmonton Sun notes that "it will be several months before officials from the Guinness World Records verify the accomplishment," the attempt appears to have been successful.

The previous record, set at San Diego State University, was a 450-person match. Alberta students and staff obliterated the old mark by organizing an epic showdown with 1,200 participants. Scroll down to see footage from the event.

SPRINT king Usain Bolt will compete in New York this summer at the fifth leg of the new-look Diamond League on the same track that he first broke the 100m running world record.

Meet organisers confirmed on Tuesday that the three-time Olympic gold medallist, world champion and world record holder will compete in the Adidas Grand Prix on June 12 on Randall's Island.

In May 2008, Bolt clocked 9.72 seconds to break compatriot Asafa Powell's world record at the Reebok Grand Prix in New York before heading to Beijing that August and crossing the line in 9.69.

"The track was lit up by lightning but despite the storm the supporters stayed seated to watch the 100m. So I know they enjoyed my speed," said Bolt.

Bolt has since become the hottest property in world athletics and clocked new world records of 9.58 and 19.19 at last summer's World Championships in Berlin.

The New York meet, formerly known as the Reebok Grand Prix, will be the fifth stop on the inaugural IAAF Diamond League circuit.

Bolt is expected to opt against competing at October's Commonwealth Games in Delhi, instead inspected to feature at the majority of the 14 events that make up the new Diamond League, which replaces the six-legged Golden League series.

Dan Magness sets 'keepy-uppy' world record

Dan Magness sets 'keepy-uppy' world record,Olympic world record,sport world record,world records 2010
Mr Dan Magness has broken a world record by playing "keepy-uppy" 30 miles across London, visiting every Premier League stadium in the capital.

Dan Magness, 26, left Fulham's Craven Cottage at 0800 GMT and finished at Tottenham Hotspur's White Hart Lane stadium at about 2145 GMT.

By doing the "football freestyler", he managed the longest keepy-uppy journey.

To break the record he had to keep the ball off the ground using all parts of his body, except his hands.

After reaching White Hart Lane, Mr Magness, of Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, said: "I am absolutely exhausted, I've had every sort of cramp but I am really proud."

He said he now hoped to visit every Premier League ground doing his football tricks.

The ball he used will embark on a 10,000-mile overland journey to Johannesburg, South Africa.

On its journey, the football will be taken through Europe and 17 African countries to the opening of the World Cup in the South African city.

In much the same vein as the Olympic Torch, the football - which organisers refer to as The Ball - is seen as a symbol of hope, promoting peace and unity.

The ball was hand-stitched in Africa by Alive & Kicking, a UK-based social enterprise that runs stitching factories in Kenya and Zambia.

"It's a fitting way to begin the ball's journey to the World Cup in South Africa and we're very proud that a ball hand-stitched by Alive & Kicking in Kenya will be the centrepiece of this amazing footballing spectacle," said Alive & Kicking director Will Prochaska.

Mr Magness has already broken four world records, recently controlling a ball for 24 hours in a box in central London's Covent Garden.

Tendulkar and Dravid's 100-run partnership for the third wicket came from 25.3 overs and included 10 boundaries.
