Largest flour taco in the world - Longest Line Of Tacos World Record

Largest flour taco in the world - Longest Line Of Tacos World Record

The 500 tacos brought to East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo Jr. by Reform Immigration for America on Thursday was impressive and made a point, but how does it compare to current Taco-related world record holders? Well, it depends on the type of Taco and who you ask. Our enterprise reporting team did some digging and we have the breakdown.

The largest flour taco in the world weighed 750 kg (1,654 lb) and was made by the city of Mexicali and Cocinex SA de CV, in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico on 8 March 2003, according to Guinness World Records.

However, Mexico beat its own record in 2011 creating a 50-meter long taco in the Mexican capital’s Plaza Garibaldi (WATCH THE VIDEO). The taco was filled with an “indeterminate” volume of onion, rice, cilantro, pork cracklings, beef, chicken, eggs and sausages. Unfortunately, the City didn’t have enough enough funds to register the record with Guinness World Records.Screen shot 2012 01 27 at 3.38.35 PM 300x222 Some Amazing Taco World Records

“We’re in the process of registering it, but it implies an expenditure that can’t be contemplated right now of more than 400,000 pesos (some $33,000),” municipal official Agustin Torres Pérez told news service EFE.

Mexico had made another record-breaking taco in the same City the year before, according to the newspaper El Mundo.

Baluarte Bridge - World's tallest suspension bridge in Mexico

Baluarte Bridge - World's tallest suspension bridge in Mexico

The world's tallest suspension bridge opened in Mexico Thursday spanning a ravine higher than New York's Empire State building and Paris' Eiffel Tower.

At 403 meters or 1,322 feet tall, the Baluarte Bicentennial Bridge connects between the northwestern states of Sinaloa and Durango in the Sierra Madre Occidental mountains.

Officials with the Guinness Book of World Records were present as was President Felipe Calderon for the opening ceremony.

Mexican President Felipe Calderon officially opened the Baluarte Bridge in the Sierra Madre Occidental mountains Thursday, the British Broadcasting Corp. reported. With a 1,321-foot drop from its deck to the bottom of the Baluarte River beneath, the span was named by Guinness World Records as the world's highest cable-stayed bridge.

According to the BBC, Baluarte stole its record from France's Millau Viaduct, which Guinness says remains the world's tallest, stretching 1,125 feet from top to bottom.

The Mexican span wasn't able to claim the record of being the world's highest bridge. According to the Guinness website, that honor remains with China's Si Du River Bridge in the Hubei province with a deck 1,549 feet off the ground.

The difference between the two bridges is that the Eiffel Tower could fit underneath the Baluarte Bridge but not the Empire State Building, which the Si Du River Bridge would cover.

The Baluarte Bridge isn't expected to open to traffic until later this year. The Reuters news service reported that construction began on the bridge in February 2008 and cost hundreds of millions to complete.

World’s largest carnitas taco set World Record by Mexican city of Queretaro

World’s largest carnitas taco set World Record by Mexican city of Queretaro

The country that holds the record for the world’s largest cheesecake, meatball and pair of trousers can now add another name to the list in the Guinness book of world records.

The Mexican city of Querétaro set a new record with the world’s largest carnitas taco, measuring 73 meters and using 150 thousand kilos of pork. Besides the the massive amount of pork, 700 thousand kilos of tortillas, 500 kilos of tomatoes 300 kilos of onions and 20 kilos de cilantro were used to put the taco together.

Staff of The Guinness World Records certified the achievement, which involved volunteers and students from National College of Professional Education, Tec Milenio University and the Culinary Institute of Advanced Studies.

With hundreds of people watching on, the taco was assembled on a huge table in a garden in the heart of Querétaro. The official Guinness World Records measurement surpassed the former record, which was only 65 meters long, and involved 150 thousand kilos of the pulled pork.

Once the record was broken, the tasty tortilla did not go to waste, as it was distributed among the volunteers, chefs and crowd who came to see the event.

The idea behind the giant taco was the brainchild of the Board of Querétaro's Kitchen, whose president, Francisco Reséndiz, said the "tacote" cost around 700 thousand pesos, or $50,000, and was meant to promote Querétaro and its local cuisine.

Mexico City residents lined up on Sunday for a piece of a massive traditional holiday sweet bread weighing over ten metric tons, a world- record-smashing size, according to city officials.

The massive pastry, a largest popular bread called the "rosca de reyes" that appears around the Three Kings holiday in Mexico, measures 720 meters long and used over 50,000 eggs and 2,900 kilos of sugar.

The national bakers' association has sponsored the creation of the huge " rosca" for the last three years in the capital.

Hundreds of residents crowded in lines for a piece of the behemoth treat, which completely wrapped the perimeter of Mexico City's large Zocalo plaza.

"It's a nice thing that we really appreciate," said resident Lucia Gonzalez after collecting several slices for herself and her family. "Many times people don't have enough to buy their own traditional sweet bread at home, so they can come here to enjoy a little piece," she added before noting that this year's record-setting "rosca" was tastier than last year's.

The most recent record belongs to Houston, Texas, with a "rosca" of 1,300 kilograms, said Ferrer Galvan of the city's Secretary of Economic Development two days before the event. No officials from Guinness World Records were present at the event to verify the claim.

The sweet bread took 21,000 man hours of labor and cost approximately 128, 000 US dollars to create.
