World's largest stop-motion animated film shot entirely with Nokia N8
A short movie filmed using just three Nokia smartphone cameras has set a record for the world's largest stop-motion animated film.
The film "Gulp" was produced over 11,000 square feet of sand on Pendene Beach in South Wales over a week, according to the Guinness World Records.
"It was shot using three Nokia N8 smartphones attached to a cherry picker hoisted 36 meters (118ft) in the air," it said.
With the beach as a canvas, fish, seagulls and the sea were created with a rake, while the film's prop designers built a life-size fishing boat that was used by a "fisherman" played by one of the film's artists.
"The film was a huge test of planning and coordination with mother nature. We were incredibly lucky with conditions and tide times – sometimes we got our final frame for the day just as the waves crashed in around our set," co-director Will Studd said.
"Gulp" tells the story of a lone fisherman who becomes the hunted after landing a huge catch, the Guinness World Records site said.
Its directors were "Sumo Science", who form part of Oscar-winning animation studio Aardman —the creators of the famous stop-motion characters Wallace and Gromit.
