The controversial effigy stands at 33m (108ft), one metre for every year that Jesus lived, according to creator Reverend Sylwester Zawadzki.

With its gold crown, the white landmark is 36m (118ft) tall, and if the mound it stands on is also taken into account, it measures 51m (167ft).

Brazil's famous Christ the Redeemer statue, the previous record holder, stands at 39.6m (130ft).

Mr Zawadzki, 78, the local priest in Swiebodzin, about 40 miles from the German border, said: "I have never been as happy as I am today.

"This is the culmination of my life's work as a priest. I felt inspired to fulfil Jesus' will, and today I give thanks to him for allowing me to fulfil his will."

Some believe the £1million statue will bring more visitors to the area.

But others say the money would have been better spent elsewhere.

Jarek, 41, from a nearby village, said: "I don't understand. With all this money, we would have done better to build an elementary school."

Construction of the statue was hampered by strong winds, an accident in which the head fell and crushed a builder's foot and the priest suffering a heart attack.

Britain's Angel of the North statue is 65ft tall, but boasts a wingspan of 177ft.

Chef Grzegorz Kaszubski said some 3.5 tons of flour was used to make the dough.

Raymond Marshall from the Guinness World Records was on hand measuring the finished pizza.

"For the pizza to be the longest in the world, it has to be one single piece, so it cannot be small individual pizzas," Marshall said.

"The current record is 407 meters and today we are hoping to achieve more than one thousand meters, which is over a kilometer."

It has not yet been officially announced whether the Krakovians managed the record or not.

CIECHANOWIEC, Poland  -- Over 1500 Easter eggs from all over the world are gathered in the Easter Egg Museum in Ciechanowiec, founded by Irena Stasiewicz-Jasiukowa and Jerzy Jasiuk - setting the world record for the Largest Easter Egg Collection.

The founders of the museum, Irena Stasiewicz-Jasiukowa, Professor from the National Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, an authority in this field, and Jerzy Jasiuk, have been collecting eggs for 30 years.

Antoni Mosiewicz from the museum said it was a rare collection.

The collection is made up of eggs decorated with wax, paint, colour paper, bulrush, knitting wool, as well as rice and poppy seeds.

Each egg is a piece of art, unique in its type and come from finch, quail, chicken, goose and ostriches. Eggs comes from all regions of Poland and Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Czech Republic, China, Japan, Kenya, Brazil, Palestine, Greece, Cuba and many other countries in the world.

There are those which are man-made. There are wooden and iron crafted eggs in the collection. Visitors to the museum have the chance to compare different styles and techniques which decorate the eggs to create works of art.

Most of the techniques are now confined to history and aren't in use today. Polish folk Easter eggs form the majority of the exhibition, but there are eggs decorated in styles from countries such as China, Kenya, Japan and Russian.

Antoni Mosiewicz, Agriculture Museum: "We've got bird eggs. From African finch to the ostrich eggs."

Visitors to the museum have the chance to compare different styles and techniques, that decorate the eggs to create works of art. But most of the techniques are now outdated and aren't used today.
