Fightstar’s Charlie Simpson set world record for coldest gig ever

Fightstar frontman and former Busted singer Charlie Simpson has announced that he will be attempting to enter the Guinness Book Of World Records later this year when he tries to play the world’s coldest gig.

In November, the singer will fly to the Russian town of Oymyakon in Siberia, which has a population of 472 and has no running water or electricity. He will then attempt to play a show in the town in temperatures of around -40 degrees.

The town is in fact so cold that mobile phones cannot function and boiling water can be turned to ice in under five seconds when exposed to the air. If Simpson manages to play the gig, he has been assured that he will enter the Guinness Book Of World Records.

Speaking about the gig, the singer-songwriter said: “The gig is by far one of the biggest challenges of my career, but I’m really excited to get out there and see a part of our planet that very few people will ever get to visit. It’s not really an option to play my guitar wearing gloves, so I just hope my fingers don’t freeze”.

Charlie Simpson released his debut solo album ‘Young Pilgrim’ last summer. The singer has also recently completed work on the score for the British comedy film Everyone’s Going To Die, which is due for release later this year.

Speaking about this, he told NME: “I’ve just scored my first feature film, which debuts next month. It’s a British dark comedy. That’s just been finished. I did all that myself. It’s all instrumental, bit of orchestral and a bit of electronic.
